I have a litre of Absolut Citron that has been open since I guess Easter - or maybe Christmas last year. Only an inch is gone (can you tell we're not vodka drinkers?) DH says it might be bad - he thinks the flavored ones go bad? I thought alcohol kept for years. Does anyone know? I'd hate to have wasted that bottle - Absolut ain't cheap!

Hi, there! You can put it in the refrigerator. I don't think it's going to go bad.
I kept a bottle of coffee licour and orange licour for almost a year and they were perfectly fine.
Hope this can help. thumbs_up.gif
Bye!

most alcohokls stay good for years, unless it is a mixed drink kept in the fridge (i.e. mudslide, kamakazi, etc.....)

I hear all things get better with age...hehehehehehe especially alcohol

If the lid has been off for quite awhile (alcohol evaporates leaving much behind.

I keep my vodka in the freezer like most people. If it hasn't been kept in the freezer or fridge, I'd toss it.

It will still be fine... no need to toss it.

Princess is right, no need to toss it. Would you toss your vanilla extract out? That's alcohol. That's what you make homemade extract with, vodka and vanilla beans.

No worries, have a Screwdriver and enjoy! icon_biggrin.gif

they're right! don't throw it out, it won't go bad unless like Randa said it's got something in it that spoils (like Baileys)... enjoy!

Heehee, and when have you ever kept alcohol that long, haha!
Actually if the top is screwed on tight, it keeps for years but I have had brandy where the top wasn't on tight enough, go tasteless, the alcohol evaporated.

Haha, we had a bottle of Geneva Gin that sat for many years. Gross, it smells and tastes like cheap perfume would, I imagine. Couldn't doctor up any drink enough to kill the taste of that one, haha. So eventually it got pitched.

Alcohol that has cream likeBaileys Irish Cream will definitely go bad. Other than that, alohol will evaporate out, but it takes quite along time. Just tadste it to see...if it is bad, it won't hurt you to taste it. IT will just taste awful!! Hee Hee Easy forme to say, since I'm not tasting it huh?!! Lol!!!

LOL, if you are unsure of the taste what I do is wait until everyone has had a few drinks and they don't really care what the alcohol taste like, they just want to have another drink.... that's when you bring out the questionable items LOL.....

Just an FYI on Bailey's. We bought a small bottle right before I got pregnant and I don't want to throw it away - so I went to the site and read up....

From www.baileys.com in the FAQ section

"1. What is the shelf life of Baileys Original Irish Cream?
A. Baileys is the only cream liqueur that guarantees a totally natural product that delivers that unique, smooth Baileys taste for 24 months from the day it was made. One of the keys to achieving this is the artful blending of fresh Irish cream and aged Irish whiskey - two products that are not normally compatible. This is achieved through a combination of art and science and without the use of additives or preservatives, which results in the alcohol acting as a natural preservative for the product. How we do this must remains a closely guarded secret, which contributes to producing the world's favorite liqueur. Baileys should be stored away from direct sunlight at a temperature range of 41-95 degrees Fahrenheit (5-35 degrees Centigrade). You don't have to refrigerate your bottle, but we would recommend it - and it tastes even better when chilled! Fluctuating its temperature too much will cause it to go lumpy - so try and always keep it roughly at the same temperature. The storage conditions are the same for sealed or opened bottles. If you are concerned about a bottle of Baileys - all bottles now carry a best before date - check the Best consumed before date on the bottle. Have you exceeded the date? If you cannot find a date on the bottle, have you had the bottle for longer than 24 months? You don't have to worry if you have - it is still fine to drink - it just won't taste as good as usual. We wouldn't recommend drinking it if it has gone lumpy or the mixture has separated though."
