I pulled an all-nighter guys....phew!
My brother's cake was for this past Friday and yesterday I had an affair I just couldn't get out of.....I had a cake due today for 50 people!!! I made some strong coffee.....put on the 80's tunes and in between layers, I danced to Madonna and The Cars just to keep my blood pumping!!! You would think I'm very strange if you saw me but it has become a ritual. (I know all the words to all the songs....)
Anyway....back to cake business.....
Today's cake was for a 3 yr old's birthday....they had it in a children's museum that features an antique firetruck, hence the "fire" theme. I was complimented by all....I got an order for 100 people for next Sunday and as I went back to my car, I got another call for a 60-person cake for Saturday.....
I guess I won't be making any pumpkin pies this year.....
Alright...here's the cake....I may not answer any questions right away because my fingers are typing but my brain is fast asleep!! By the way....
I used white DH mix, with the extender recipe but I also added some flavorings. Vanilla, almond and a touch of orange. What a delicious cake!!!! Moist and so pretty!!!!
YOUR CAKES ARE SO INCREDIBLE! YOU ARE CONSTANTLY OUT-DOING YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
Beautiful! You have some of the most creative ideas I have ever seen. I am so envious. As soon as your fingers have rested I definitely have some questions! Are the figures made from royal icing? How did you get them so shiney? How did you make the cute ladders?
I can't wait to see your next creation. It seems like each one gets better and better. ![]()
Great cake and sooo much different from all the Firetruck themes!!!
The cake is really gorgeous. I just love it!
May I ask about the cake board? Did you make it yourself or did you buy the ready made one in the cake decorating aisle?

Every decoration is MMF. The silver ones were painted with silver luster dust and vodka...they just are shiny.....the water drops were brushed with piping gel after I painted them. The ladders were just a piece of fondant that I rolled out...I used my pizza cutter to the width (maybe 2 inches?)...and then I used the edge of my metal ruler as a "knife" and cut out the squares, which left the rungs.
I know it sounds confusing....?...it's just too simple to describe easily and my brain has turned into MMF.

These are Wilton cake boards that comein a 2-pack. I got them from Michaels.
Do you do this for a living?
The plan is to start a business doing this....I just adore doing it. (except for the sleepless night). But, I am learning something each week that's making each "job" easier and easier.
This site is invaluable to someone like me....I don't have time to go to classes with my 2 kids so everything know comes from the great folks at this site and by just reading different articles. My husband is extremely supportive but I still feel so guilty when I have to order in or the house is messy......
He does everything he can to help me but I try my best to make everything as "normal" as possible at home.
Thanks, you guys!!!
Amazing!!! I do not know how to put into words what I think right now!!! Absolutley outstanding. My son is in love!!! (however, he so nicely pointed out..you could never do that) gotta love him...his b day is Dec.31, maybe I will start practicing and surprise him..
Great Job!!

Thank you....that's really so sweet.....kids are funny, aren't they? Charley dog....there is nothing hard about doing this....the absolute hardest part about ANY cake I make is the design. If I put it on paper, I make a rough outline of the order that things need to be done in and viola!...it all comes together. If I don't have a plan, I can spend hours trying different things....which is a waste.
This is all made of fondant that I sculpt and paint afterwards. You can do one piece at a time from now till Dec. 31st.....or you can add the food coloring to the fondant if you find that easier and you don't want to paint....The actual cake is just a cake and the design is already there for you. Make it for him....the kids absolutely loved it!
Thanks again everyone!!!
Beautiful work! I love you other pix as well.
