gmacakes, I am sorry you are having a rough night. Unfortunately, we've all been there! Hang in there. Step away from the cake - chill. When you go back to it I hope it all comes together much smoother.

Well...bad night?...It's getting worse! Scrapped the idea of using fondant, perhaps forever at this point. Buttercream was going great! Turned the cake around to place the top layer...bottom layer has cracked, BIG CRACK! This is not my night! No eggs in the house to bake another cake, kids asleep, husband at work, 8 miles from nearest store to go get more eggs to bake another cake. Cake has to be delivered at 2pm tomorrow. the only light in my darkness...totally experimental cake..can completely scrap the idea and make a sheet cake! The big question, wake the kids & go to the store now, stay up all night OR bake new cake in the morning & have to rush to get it done! AHHHHHHH! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I think you should leave it alone tonight and get up early and do a sheet cake. I think you may be too frustrated at this point. Is the bottom layer fixable at all??? Or is it completely cracked??? I know how you feel...we have all had horrible cake days. I ripped an edible image one night and was not able to get another one. I had to have the cake finished by 9 am...ended up in Walmart at like 10pm trying to find some kind of toy to put on the cake. Anyway...you have time to bake in the morning...relax and go to bed for now.

If worse comes to worse...you could buy an undecorated sheet cake from the bakery and decorate with your icing. I have had to do that before when I have had baking disasters...some days nothing seems to go right!

gmcakes,

I am so sorry you're having a bad night. I'm just up the road in Round Rock. I could have brought you some eggs because I know what it's like to be so frustrated with cake. I'm with NEWTODECORATING. Take a break from it for a while and get some rest. I'm sure everything will be okay because your cakes are AWESOME.

I am so frustrated at this point, I'm in tears! icon_cry.gif ...the bottom layer is a total loss. Have no time or energy to even think about doing anything but a sheet cake! this is my first BIG cake disaster in over 15 years of decorating, never anything this bad. Called DH at work, he gets off at 4am, told him PLEASE bring me some eggs! Will try to get some sleep, but now have to come up with comepletely new vision for this cake...and no ideas at this time! NOT MY NIGHT!

Thanks everybody, for all the support. It's somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one things like this happen to!

Traci: I wish going to the bakery and buying a cake to decorate was an option. But, I live in a small town, only about 5000 people. We have a superWal-Mart and a grocery store here that sell cakes, and BOTH gets their cakes in frozen and predecorated!

I know I can do it, its just not going to happen this weekend. Can't help but wonder if the buttercream was just to much weight for the carved edge to support? I just need more practice with the fondant icing before I try this again I guess. Would like to try some purchased fondant, maybe my consistency is just off, but I'd rather lick postage stamps than taste that Wilton Fondant again! Does anyone know where to purchase Satin Ice? I've heard several people on this sight talk favorably about it's taste. Might be worth a shot, before I totally swear off fondant icing forever.

gdixoncakes: Might there be a supplier of SatinIce in Austin?
