tooo funny.... you should have said yes and then made the biggest badest cake you could to show it off... I was in a similar situation with my baby shower.. my sis's wanted to buy me a storebought cake and I laughed at them, so we settled on an ice cream cake...
Yes, that is strange. I'm sure she knows what you do?!
However, maybe she also enjoys to bake, or wants to try a new recipe. Why not? The more the merrier. Now, if she tries to sell something, that's another thread! ![]()
Everyone I know knows what I do, and know one I know cooks/bake.
She left the message on the phone and in the middle of her sentance she did hesitate. So, maybe it dawn on her and leaving a message threw her a loop.
But then I have a BIL that always brings cookies from Costco. Their cookies are good but then my guest still expect me to make cookies.
Like Judge Judy say's "Put on your thinking cap".
Not to change the subject, but where are you from to be having a Mardi Gras party? We just had our Mardi Gras ball and the parades are already starting up. Tell her if she wants to bring a cake the only one allowed at a Mardi Gras is a King Cake. Let her figure it out. Have some fun with her, after all that is what Mardi Gras is all about, desception LOL
Us Northerners don't have a clue when Mardi Gras is, we just use it to have a party. We think it's in Febuary, guessing.
I thought having a party in Febuary is a break from the winter blues, I live in MI. And, it sounds better to say Mardi Gras then Febuary Party.
And, I like for guest to dress up and look silly.
I think bkd guessed it right.
It was some body my husband use to work with, I made him call her.
Giving her the benefit of the doubt: Maybe she was thinking of something simpler, like coffee or bundt cake. Many of my friends and family members don't care for decorated cakes and prefer the more homey, plain cakes.
Or maybe 'gourmet' type cakes (not sure what you call them). You know, the ones that have lots of candies and/or nuts and chocolate, caramel or whatever drizzeld all over them.
It may not be a challenge at all, but just looking to bring something different.
Can't wait to see it, Janette.
I personally think it's a riot when someone does that. It's happened to me too. Two years ago my s-i-l told me that she wanted to bring cookies and cakes for Christmas (she likes to bake), but then admitted how silly it is to bring that to another baker (especially when she was told by her mom that I was going to be baking). Anyway, she brought a bunch of stuff anyway - and guess what? She made the tray all pretty and told me it was for me and my DH (her brother) for Christmas - our GIFT! She said she couldn't go shopping because her back was acting up (due to a car accident three years ago she has 18 herniated discs in her spine) ![]()
Maybe her back was acting up because she made over 180 cookies?!
She gave a few people cookie trays as gifts. Oh well... it takes all kinds...
I don't understand the need to show off - baking cakes is not a competition. I would be sad if I had baked a plainly/non decorated cake because I wanted to be generous and then was looked down upon and attempted to be put to shame with some wildly decorated cake. Not everyone likes big fancy decorated cakes.
I am not trying to be mean, I am just trying to show it from another perspective. Not everyone looks at cakes the way we do and are trying to put us out of business. ![]()
