I've looked at so many numbers that I have actually confused myself. If someone has time to look at a table, it would be so much appreciated. This small wedding cake is giving me so many fits. I'm doing a 6" round, (3 two inch layers torted), and a 10" rd. (3 two inch layers torted). If I used the 2" pan measurements I get that this cake will serve 50, if I use the 3" pan measurements, I get 100. Now how can this be this far off. I'm in accounting for goodness sakes. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!!!!

According to the Wilton serving chart, whether it is 2" or 3" it is the same number of servings.
6" will serve 12 and the 10" will serve 28 for a total of 40.

Ok, besides not being able to add 12 and 28, I see what I was doing wrong. The 2" chart says it is for two layers and the 3" chart is for a single layer. Are you seeing the same thing. And also the 3" says it will feed 12 and 38 which may be where I got my 50 before. Who knows. Thanks for your response.

Are you torting with a filling or just buttercream?
how many guests will there be.

I looked up the Wilton's chart and they have 2 #'s listed basically for the same thing, so I am also confused.

According to wiltons's charts

http://www.wilton.com/wedding/cakeinfo/cakedata.cfm

1 layer 10 inch serves 15, so if you are doing 3 layers then that's 45 servings maybe.

Then like kakedecorator mentioned, they also say either 2inc or 3 inch 10 round is 38.

So now I am confused also. They tell you how to cut it and all that, but if you torte it, you cannot really seperate the layers.

So unless your description is off, I am not sure what to add.

If you let us know about the filling and # of guests, maybe someone else can help.

Good Luck.

I find Earlene's chart to be more realistic....according to her you'll get 30 from the 10" and 8 from the 6".

The top layer will be with filling and the bottom buttercream and she wants the cakes to be 6" tall. And we are looking for 50 to 60 servings. Sorry for the confusion.

adven68, Thanks for Earlene's chart. I have seen it mentioned a few times, always mean to look it up and miss. Now I saved it as a favorite.

This make more sense to me as well. MissyM, looks like you need another layer in between or you let the bride choose smaller pieces like the chart says in column F, in my info I calculate the size as column C so 6 inch cake serves 8. These are small reasonable pieces when that is the only desert you get.

Good luck
