Hi all...I got a call from my mother yesterday and she said they had called 911 to come get my uncle who is a quad. He is paralyzed from the neck down. At that time, that is all she knew...so she calls me last night..and by this time I am on the edge of my seat. I am 4 hours away..and I am waiting to see if I need to go there. He was still in the ER last night at 10pm. I got up this morning and called the hospital. They were going to put him in ICU, but they have moved him to the Cardiac floor. I talked to nurse and she said the reason they moved him there was because the doctor didn't like what he saw on the EKG and his heart rate was in the 160 range and his BP was really low. He is also on a vent at night. The nurse said that his cardiac enzymes were low?? Still don't know what that means yet. At this moment he is stable, so I am asking that once again, my CC family pull together and lift up prayers for him. His name is William. He has been a quad for 7 years.I will be sure to keep you posted...as often as I hear something. TY so much!!
Beth
I'll be praying for you and your uncle. It is so hard to be away from your family when something difficult is going on.
My thoughts are with you and the family.... my uncle a couple of years ago was told the same thing... this is something we were told what it was meant when they say cardiac enzymes were low.
Low levels of these enzymes are normally found in your blood, but if your heart muscle is injured, such as in a heart attack, the enzymes leak out of damaged heart muscle cells and their levels in the bloodstream rise, and can cause a heart attack..sometimes massive heartattacks.
I know it is for the best for him to be where he is no doubt, but that doesnt make it any easier....
I know it is so hard..I am in SC and they are in NC...but my mom knows all she has to do is call and I am there. I have 3 kids, so I am trying to hold off on pulling them out of school until I know what is what...But I know that you guys here always pull through. TY so much!!
Beth
May God bless you and your family. May he keep you and hold you and your family through this difficult time!
I will be praying for you! Please let us know!!!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please keep us informed.
It must be very hard for your uncle also. Being a quad can be a hopeless feeling in itself - not being able to do anything for yourself. I faced the very real possibility of being a quad after a car accident that left me paralized from the neck down several years ago. Luckily it was not permanent and 3 months later I found myself learning to walk and function all over again. What a wonderful new appreciation for life it gave me! Please make sure you pass along to your uncle that we are pulling for him.
Debbie
I will be sure to let him know that we all are lifting up prayers for him. Yes, at times he has felt hopeless, but like my mom said this morning...his heart can't take anymore pain. He has 2 children that have nothing to do with him. My sister and I are like his daughters more then his nieces. I thought at first it was just hard for them to accept, but they told him that it embarrassed them to take him out, and now the only time they come over is for money. He got a HUGE settlement, and they know that when something does happen to him, they will be set...(or at least that is what they thought. He has had his will changed since then) It just makes me furious at them, they could be there helping with his care, and taking him places, and spending time with them. But they don't. They come over and it's like "Dad, I need some money". They have even been caught stealing some of his money. I just know that he took care of them when they were growing up, and he loved them no matter what. They should do the same. I turned to you all here, because I know that anytime I have needed you all, you have been right there. TY again!!

My prayers go out to your uncle but also your entire family. It is hard on family members to be sitting and waiting for news. It is also very hard to care for someone 24/7 but we do it out of love. I also pray that your cousins will change their attitudes. Forgive them and move on.
That's a shame MominSC. They are the ones missing out. You and your mom deserve a medal - he knows he is loved.
Debbie
Lord, do your will. we pray for the soul of this person. help him and his family through this time. give him the strength to pull through and make a full recovery. In Jesus name we pray Amen.
You and your family and especially your Uncle have my prayers! Please let us know how he is doing every opportunity you can!
God bless,
Amy
Beth,
I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. It sounds like he's had it very tough over the past several years. I also strongly believe that you should care for your parents no matter what and could never imagine abandoning my parents because they were disabled. That is the most selfish thing anyone could ever do. Your uncle is very lucky to have you there for him.!! That is very kind of you.
I will keep him in my prayers
May God Bless You And Your FamilyAnd May His Many Blessings Get You Through These Trying Times. You Have A Strong Family Here At C.C.
Who's Prayers You Can ALWAYS Depend On.
God Bless You.
UPDATE~ Ok mom called me several times. My uncle has a pump implanted inside of his stomach that controls his spasms. He has had it for a while. Today that found out the batteries were dead..so that is what caused him to start up with the spasms. They are taking his trach out so they can put the hospital one in because he is still "gasping" for air. Mom said they were going to take him to the OR first thing in the morning to replace the pump. 15 minutes later she calls back and says that the doctor came in a refused to do surgery. He says my uncle is too weak for the surgery. It requires him to be put to sleep. If they did that now with him being weak..he would never make it. So they are waiting. His BP has went back down and his pulse has went back up to the 150-160 range. He also has a urinary tract infection which they think has gotten so bad that it has poisoned his bloodstream. They are now running more tests. Back to the waiting game. My grandmother said when she went to the hospital today, that as soon as she seen him, the first thing that came to her mind was he was having a heart attack. The doctors have yet to rule out a mini stroke. I have prayed and gave this to God, and I am standing firm on my faith. I thank you all so much for lifting him up, he really needs it. I will let you know when I find out more. TY CC family, I don't know what I would do without you all!!!
Big Hugs to each and every one of you,
Beth
