Hi -- I will be going on vacation to San Diego and was wondering if there are any great decorating supply stores ( other than Michaels) in the area?
Thanks.

Yes...Do It With Icing is good, but not fancy at all, and in my personal opinion has more candy molding stuff than cake stuff.

There is Standley's in Chula Vista, but they carry the same stuff as Michael's.

So sadly there isn't anything spectacular. I do all my shopping at Michael's.

Yes, I have to agree with amygortoncakes this is sad but true icon_sad.gif I usually order my stuff from the internet because we do not have a big store that sells good stuff. I like to shop at Do it with icing because if I don't see what I am looking for Linda can do a special order. I also try to go to a place to Orange County and it was a very small store. so good luck and I hope you enjoy your vacation here in our beautiful San Diego thumbs_up.gif

Hey guys, Don't forget about us here at " The Cake Cottage " we are just north of San Diego in the city of Murrieta. The store owner is Susan Carberry who teaches cake decorating nation wide and was a winner on TLC'S Ultimate Cake Off. Her shop is not huge but it is packed with great cake decorating supplies that you will not find at any of the big box stores. So come and check out her shop and have some fun.

AWESOME! Murrietta here we come this weekend....LOL. I had no idea there was a store up there. I have to find a sitter because the first time we went to Do It With Icing my 3 year old dumped an entire container of cake flour on the carpet.

Thank you

Lakeside Bakery Supply: http://lakesidebakerysupplies.com/
Wholesale warehouse bakery supply. This is NOT a storefront, it is an operating warehouse with a Will Call office. You do not have to have a wholesale license, they will let you buy products at wholesale pricing and add tax. If you know what you want, this is the place to go!!! IExamples:
25 lb. box of Guittard Dark Chocolate A'Peels: $45 + tax
50 lb. box of Sweetex for about $70 (no trans fat formula because California outlawed transfat in 2011)
Large quantities of bakery boxes (100+) , cake circles (100-250+), Sleeve Filling (12 sleeves to a box, all one flavor)
FondX white fondant: 10 lb. for about $20
5 gallon buckets of ready-made frosting, around $45

You will have to call them first and set up a telephone account. I ask them a few questions like: What type of fondant do you carry? What is the smallest quantity? What is the price? Once I know what they have, I place an order and ask when it will be available at Will Call. (Usually the same day unless it is a special order.)

Yes.

I have sent you a separate PM with my phone #.  If you have any questions, please give me a call.

By the way, Do It With Icing has a HUGE amount of inventory in 2014.  The size of their store has doubled and they carry all sorts of new stuff!   If you haven't been there in 2014, it is well worth a visit.  I now purchase my cake boxes and clear plastic cupcake packaging from Do It With Icing since they are competitive with pricing.
