I just got my first job at a high volume bakery and expect to be on my feet for 6 to 8 hrs at a time. What brand/type of shoes do you experts wear? I remember hearing before there is a prefeered brand for people who are standing all day. Thanks!

Crocs, love them. They are ugly but you can't beat the comfort.

I stand all day as well. But I wear a good pair of sneakers. I do like crocks too but my doctor said no to them because there isnt enough support. Also I love my birkenstocks I wear those year round.

I alternate between Crocs and Danskos.

When I worked at a hospital and was on my feet all day, I wore Danskos. These were the brand worn by many of the doctors and surgeons. They came highly recommended to me and turned out to be well worth the price. They definitely have a different feel and fit than most shoes and do not have a lot of cushy padding, but you really don't need it - the support is still there. I rarely came home with tired/sore feet after switching to these, and they didn't make my feet sweat like some of my more cushioned shoes.

I recently found Crocs sandles and love them, might not work for a bakery though. Mephisto is a wonderful brand name along with Dansko. SAS is also a good shoe if you are gonna be on your feet all day long.

Support stockings are ugly and expensive but they keep your legs from falling off. If you wear slacks you can wear them even when they have runners & who cares. They are really wonderful for long days on your feet. The kind of hose you get at the drug store--not by the L'eggs & stuff the other kind the not so fancy medical-y kind. So worth it.

I wear Crocs, but the sandals kind (much cuter!) or birkenstocks.

at home i wear my croc sandals akk the time in the kitchen. When i worked in a bakery i wore tennis shoes and the croc shoes, Crocs were definitely more comfortable for me.

IMO Danskos are the best! I switch between these and a pair of crocs.

Just make sure you replace any shoe on a regular basis - just like a running shoe, you don't always know when the interior sole is breaking down - your body should start to tell you.

I've had a lot of foot trouble probably from wearing heels at my office job all day every day. I have found that my new balance slip on tennis shoes have the most support and feel so much better than anything else I've tried... granted I've never owned a pair of crocs so I don't know if they'd be more comfortable or not.

Z-coil are also very good, but pricey

I wear Quarks. I am on my feet 14+ hors every day. No pain. They come in a variety of styles. From Crocish to dressy.

Definitely consider the support stockings. You'll be happy you did when you hit my age.

Crocs does make professional kitchen shoes, but most stores do not carry them. You can buy them online at www.crocs.com

Sketchers now makes a no-slip toning sneaker.

On the professional chef's forum I belong to, most of the members use the
Birkenstocks.

I wear Crocs when I'm in the kitchen for a long period of time. I have heel spurs, and the softer foam foundation keeps my feet from severe pain at the end of the day.

I love my new nike lunar glide 2's. They have to be the most comfortable shoes I've ever had. There lightweight, breathable & have wonderful support.

Support stockings are a great idea. Wore them when I was a bartender. Probably the only reason I don't have the varicose veins that run in my family.

My legs never hurt then. My feet another story, I was required to wear 5"+ heels for my job.

I REALLY appriciate all the replies. The bakey is Publix, so I should check with their dress codes. But looking at the crocks website, it looks as if there are quite a few with closed toe closed back

I wear my bright purple ballet slippes CROCS, sooo cute, I got them on ebay. I receive some many compliments on how cute they are and the best of all how easy to wash and how comfy they are!

I wear my Shape Ups. They are super comfy. I haven't experienced any of the "toning" benefits that are advertised, but I remain hopeful!

My Mom was a cook in a very busy restaurant kitchen for many years and she never would get an opportunity to take a sit down break so shoes were very important to her and she always went with SAS. They're not cute, but she's in her 60's and still has nice legs

definately crocs. they make so many different styles now, you can even have them totally enclosed for a more "professional" look

I am on my feet all day and I wear the Merrell Encore Groove Pro its a slip on clog type shoe. I have been wearing them for the past two years they are pricey but awesome!

I wear sketchers work shoes. They work great for me!

I wear Sketchers Shape Ups. They take a bit to get used to, but they are very comfy. I wouldn't trade them for anything! I am on my feet 20+ hours sometimes.
