Thomas The Train

Thomas The Train on Cake Central

My 1st Thomas. A big thanks to Merissa for the tips/style and the lead on the tutorial. I used an 11x15 chocolate and almond bc. MMF face and covered/accents. Carved while still pretty frozen and then made the blunder of covering w/fondant before fully thawed. Caused tacky spots all over for about 3 hours. Dried fine, but cause air pockets and shifting which affected the accents by moving some lines. Managed to save it though, and everyone loved it.

critique member: ok...the ONLY critique is that there needs to be a better picture of this cake! This is great...I have nothing critical to say of this! The face is perfect, your lines are great, and I think your fondant looks very nice! ;)

Critique subgroup member: Welcome to our group Sonoma9. For all your problems they cetainly don't show on the actual cake. Your carving and modeling and colors are all perfect. My only suggestion is to improve the cake board so your cake pops. I will PM you with a sample so you understand what I mean.

critique subgroup member: i cannot believe this is cake! it's absolutely amazing and actually looks better than some of my boys' trains! maybe spruce up the cake board a bit. (and that's funny that you have a subliminal message about oriental trading in there!)

I got the tutorial site from Merissa: here it is (...) But, the tutorial used BC. I used fondant, like Merissa -- see her pics. But, the tutorial is absolutely great!

Critique group member: Wow! Very nice! My only suggestion would be to make the tracks more "beefier" the look a little wimpy next to the train.
