I can kinda understand what beenzee means .... I feel bad for the bride because she was raised thinking this is ok. I feel bad for her because she never learned any morals or sense of right or wrong. I feel bad for her because she was never taught any different. I feel bad for her because she's probably dominated by a b*tchy mom.
However, she's not 7 years old anymore. No matter HOW she was raised, there comes a point where you, as my fabulous father-in-law would say, "look around! Figure things out!"
She was never taught and she never learned .... but she brought it all on herself, by the choices she made and the actions she took.
She sure is getting a life-lesson in one big shot this weekend, isn't she?
Life's a B*tch ... but only to those who act like one!
Finally, is anyone else getting a page that stats a bad request error?
Yes! I get them frequently on this site. To fix, I go to my browser (I use Firefox) and delete all the cookies for this site. Fixes it right up!

What she pulled off is definitely a "learned behavior", obviously from Mama. Maybe the events here will be a learning experience for her (if she's not too thickheaded to benefit from it).
I agree with indydebi that the bride is probably dominated by her mother. The OP said that when the girl from the venue handed the bride the copy of the stopped payment order, she was flustered. But it was the MOB that called raising holy heck with the OP. I bet the bride ordered the cake and paid the deposit and when the MOB found out how much it was costing and thought the price was way too high, she probably instigated this whole senerio. Not that the bride is wholly innocent. If she is old enough to get married, she should be old enough to say NO to mama. But evidently not. Just my opinion.
I do not feel sorry for the bride, but I do feel sad for her because it looks like Mama has rubbed off on her. Hopefully she can get her act together after this big fat lesson she brought upon herself on her wedding weekend. I can only hope her future children (whether with her new groom or another husband if this does not last) will not be raised the same way she was.
Still, she is a big girl now and responsible for her own actions. So hope she is big enough to take the consequences and learn from them. I would hope she would be big enough to "sincerely" apologize to OP.
I think OP handled this whole thing with grace and dignity. I hope that I would act the same way if I were in her shoes.....even though my first instincts would have been to throw the cake in the bride's face.....however, it most likely would not have messed up the bride's makeup any more than it already was by the egg on her face. LOL
I keep thinking that yes, while this MOBzilla has trained her daughter, and was likely whispering evil instructions in her daughter's ear....the bride is the one who stopped payment and will be prosecuted. Testimony by dsevans (when/if this ever reaches a courtroom) will be what nails MOBzilla's coffin shut, when dsevans retells the phone conversation which will show that MOBzilla was complicit. Until then, the bride is who will bear the burden of this whole debacle. Just desserts for her. (pardon the pun) I hope the MOBzilla feels appropriately guilty for having participated in this situation, and that the bride sees her mother for what she really is. I don't feel sorry for anyone who goes into a situation with eyes wide open.
Actions and consequences. Karma. Time to pay the piper. Call it whatever you want.
I hope it comes soon.
And I hope it costs a lot.
I hope the MOBzilla feels appropriately guilty for having participated in this situation,
I'm sorry to say I know people like this and she won't feel a single pang of pain or guilt about it. No matter what happens, she will continue to pronouce herself as the victim and how "everyone" is out to get them, rip them off, or somehow screw them over.
It will never, ever, EVER be her fault.
cakedoll, you are so right in this statement: What she pulled off is definitely a "learned behavior", obviously from Mama.
dsevans - what a weekend! I'm so glad it turned out the way it did considering you could have delivered the cake and been none the wiser.
Hey just a thought - when you see their wedding picture in the local paper you'll have to send us all a link if it's online so we can see this piece of work for ourselves!!!
hee hee hee

you are soooooo right
Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm giving the marriage 6 months, TOPS.
Seriously, I can't see this having a happy ending. Not unless the bride has a complete "a-ha" moment and changes her ways & tells her mom where to stick it!
The only people I feel sorry for are the groom (although he is obviously an idiot since he still married her) and the mother of the groom. I am sure that the MOB had always dreamed of seeing her son get married, but unfortunately, he chose a selfish brat. What a backbone that woman must have, though, marching in like that and taking back the ring.
So this girl sold her reputation and integrity for $500 and some Walmart cakes. That's Klass.
this girl to me sounds worse then her mother and people like these tend to see themselves as the victim and will place any blame on everyone else just to vindicate their own "innocence"
true she learned it from mom.. but she fashioned her own style.
just like my sister, she's alot like my mom but in many ways Much worse.. Oye.. and her own daughter is following tradition *sigh* makes me glad i come from different stock (ok half different stock-- diff dads) lol
Bakerbear -- are you sure you meant to say 6 months or did you mean 6 days?!!!!!
LOL LOL
I am curious as to how this bride had enough friends and relatives to need a 6 tier wedding cake.
Maybe they were former inmates of hers. They were probably all saying, "Wow, we were this close to having cake."

"THIS close to having cake!" hahahahahaha
Made me laugh out loud!
Just a recap of the events for anyone that's catching up:
Okay so I have this massive six tier cake that is for a wedding TONIGHT.
Bride emails last night just checking in re-affirming delivery time and everything.....email her back, everything is great will be putting finishing touches on cake in the am , cake will be delivered and set up at 4:30pm ( wedd starts at 6pm). Basically confirming everything in our contract.
Okay so this may have benn stupid of me but I let them make the final payment on monday because they were waiting on their tax return to come through ( didnt think it was a big deal, their original check went through and they bank at the same bank so its not like i have to wait for the check to go through)
Okay so I am up at 6am finsihing the cake so i can work on getting cake #2 for tomorrow finished.
Get a call a few minutes ago from a friend of mine at the bank and she said that bride just called and put a stop payment on my check.
The lady that called is a good friend and knew i was delivering cake today so she went ahead and called ( typically bank would send a letter--which wouldnt have been here til monday).
So now I am trying to calm myself so when I call the bride I dont tear her a new one........I am so MAD and just dont know why people want to try and get away with crap like that
Okay, sorry had to vent to someone,
Bride not answering phone call, yes I had deposited it but our bank will "recall" the check if a stop payment has been made. I left a message for the bride saying "i'm sure it's an oversight and you gave the bank the wrong check number to stop payment one, however unless you can come by ( or have someone) and pay cash for the balance before noon I cannot deliver your cake as planned. So either I hear back from her and she pays...or it looks like church wuill be having a very large cake for easter.
kay so sorry I have been working on cake #2 for tomorrow and had to read through all the other posts when getting back.
So ...no word from bride, left message on her phne, grooms phone and MOB phone......I talked to bank and they said that she had called that morn and issued stop payment on the check ( which yes I had deposited, but the bank can still "recall" the funds at clients request) they said she did actually specify, correct check number and amount.....which was for the $550 she owed.
Okay so i just got off the phone with venue ( a place i work with quite a bit so i know them well)....they said bride and wedding party has been there most of the day but were gone to have hair done, i explained the situation to them and faxed a copy of the stop payment from the bank.
Venue rep said she would personally take the notice an put it in the brides hands and the salon ( BTW venue and salon are 35 minute drive from me...so that is why venue rep is taking notice)
she said id bride wanted the cake she would take her money and give it to me when i bring cake...if bride does not have money to pay..she will call me back and make sure everyone at the reception know why there is not a cake...
And yes I am legally covered with my contratc because I have it clearly stated that NO refund on deposits are given without proper notice of cancellation in writing and signed by both parties.
So now I am waiting to hear from venue rep...just gonna focus my work on cake #2 ( which is for a very dear friend) and get some lunch.
okay I have returned to my desk for the moment......jus to clarify banking stuff...our bank has a policy that even if the checks are from the same bank and funda may be "credited" to an account that funds can still be "recalled" up to five business days after depositing ...it's kinda like a NSF.
Anyways, venue rep goes to salon and hands the bride the faxed notice, bride apparently gets really flustered and says she can only pay $250 and can pay the rest next week....
venue rep tells her that there is no way she is going to ask me to deliver the cake with only $250 in hand...she said she could "loan" her a cake dummy ( one of mine they keep for display set ups actually) for pictures and could get her a sheet cake from walmart but it still wouldnt be enough to serve 350 people......
so bride does not call me back but MOB calls and is completely irrate
and tells me " I cannot believe you are withhoding my daughters cake on the most important day of her life, how dare you, do you not have aheart" me"of course I have a heart, but i also have a mortgage payment and a kid to feed, I am sorry but I cannot allow someone to take advantage of me and try to get a cake without paying in full for it."
I went on to explain that there is still time for them to have their cake all they have to do is pay the venue rep the cash amount owed on the cake. MOB does not like this and says that it is ridiculous to have to pay $1100 for a wedding cake and that is why her daughter stopped payment on the check. I told MOB that for 350 people $1100 wqas not outrageous but cheaper than she would have gotten her cake anywhere else. ( this comes out to roughly 3.15 a serving and the cake is detailed and has tonns of sugarpaste flowers)
So after many explicits she says they will just take their deposit back and I can keep my F'N cake.
At this point I have had enough...so i tell her to review their contract that there is no refund available because it is prior to two weeks before date and the event was not cancelled and they are in the wrong and not me and my contracts were written by a lawyer and will stand up in court.
So NO CAKE for them...oh well
I am taking the largest teir to the venue rep tomorrow for them to eat and then the rest is going to our churchs easter picnic on sunday
Okay gotta get back to work on my friends cake for tomorrow ...which she paid in full for three months ago!
Sorry have been fighting with cake #2 all day...fondant just doesn't want to work right...think half because of humidity and half because I have been aggitated but too busy to quit working< I did bring my friends cake home with me though to finsih since I am leaving early in the am to drive an hour with it and help finsih setting up for her wedding.......anyways to the continuing cake saga
venue rep decided it would not be appropriate to use my cake dummy for display, but did take brides $250 and buy a couple of wal mart sheet cakes ( which she says she will proudly display in walmart bakery box on the buffet...tacky i know but hilarious...
Groom's mother called to find out why the cake was late being delivered just about 20 minutes ago ( had it been paid for cake would have been delivered at 4:30...it's 5:10 )....I explained to her the situation....she was actually very nice...apparently no one had told her what was going on so she pulled my card and called.
She offered to pay the balance, and I told her that was very kind but there was no way I could load the cake and be there in time and after the huge ordeal from the bride and MOB I just honestly did not want to mess with it.... MOG said she understood, and she couldnt believe her son was marrying this kind of person. I also informed her that the bank had made the decision to prosecute this case as a fraud case after reviewing the contract therefore not only will bride have to pay me my money ( plus any fees incurred from it) but she will also be fined and most likely get jail time, though it could be suspended with community service.
I am glad the bank is stepping in, it will make less stress on me. but it's done and the venue rep is excited about eating cake with the other employees tomorrow and I am sure all the kids at church will be gaga over the cake!
Oh and THANKS for all the support!!! It's been kinda a crummy day because I really worked hard on the cake, i took pics but of course I left my camera at the kitchen ( I dont actually have a store, just a commercial/lisc. kitchen I work from) so either I will have hubby stop by and pic it up or post pics tomorrow!
hubby brought home camera...yay......here is a pic of the cake , it was a PAIN she found apic that she liked and wanted but instead of white she wanted pinks & lavender...oh and who ever posted the photo booth thing a while bakc...I love it...been usin mine alot lately.
Here's the picture of the cake:
yes the cake is lavende and flowers light pink...I made all those damn things myself and patently piped in yellow centers as requested.
and the bank is great, I knwo about 90% of the employess that work for that particular branch ( which is the main one) and so i typically at least once a month take them baskets of cookies and cupcakes and homemade bread, I do alot of business with them also though they get cookies and stuff for all of their"open house" events....
Wow 27 pages...I feel very supported..Thank You. Just popping in before I go to bed...havent heard anything else but will talk to venue rep tomorrow to see how the rest of her day went,
I'm tired, but am almost finished with cake #2...I swear if the colors werent on the oposite end of the spectrum I would have started stealing flowers of that cake, i worked on those flowers for over two weeks trying to get enough and make them perfct...and yes I undercharged way too much, but unfortunately it's a bad habit of mine, one that has now been broken by this incident, anyways, karma and the LAW will be catching up with them soon, so I have just decided to let the bank do their thing and they will sort it out and get my money.
I am pretty anxious to hear if MOG talked to her son or the bride??....but i seriously have to go to bed...after taking a shower, i smell like sugar and fondant, I really dont feel like waking up to my three year old licking me saying mommy you taste sweet again.
agian thanks for all the support and glad my saga could provide a full days worth of entertainment to all my fellow CCers
Okay so I know eveyone is dying for the ending , sorry i had a friends wedding yesterday and then eatser and church stuff today.
took bottom tier of the cake to venue sat before heading out with cake #2
MOG went and took her ring back from Bride that she had let her son give her as an engagemnet ring and then left the wedding because her son was still going through with it.
MOB saw walmart cake boxes and took them off the table and just tried cutting and serving, from the kitchen, venue rep just told people the truth when they asked about the cakes whereabouts....I didnt really get to hang around and chat for long and as happy as i am bride wont be getting away with it I just prefer not to take too much delight in her torment...karma ( and law) will catch up with her.
As for the bank I took them a basket of treats including top tier of cake, saturday morning,
Their policy is that if someone knowing tries to commit a banking fraud against one of it account holders, they will step up help prosecute this as a fraud case, which means, they turn everything over to prosecutors, and i will of course have to provide my documentations and the bank suggested that i wouldnt hurt just for me to have my own attorney also, which is no big deal.
The filing coming from the bank rather than than an individual helps push things along faster apparently.
Anyways, I took the rest of the cake to my church, which everyone loved, I also have letters from the bank, venue, and church saying that I had given them the cake so that the bride cant try to claim that maybe i just had a pic and no real cake.
So sorry it has taken me so long to get back on here and I still have yet to completely finish reading pages 32-end.
Thanks agian for all the support...YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Just wanted to po in an say Thanks again for the support, it's helped me keep my cool, which can be hard, but i live in a town that revolves aorund reputations, my husbands family has been here forever, so i have to watch myself, not nly personally, but i strive to have an good rep professionally , so Thanks for being my outlet!!!!
Also, thanks for all the PMS sorry if my relpies were short trying to get through quickly before my husband does his eye rolling "you're on the cake porn site again"
Yeah, okay so I didn't have a life since this saga started. I had a migraine all day, couldn't wait until it was gone so I could see what happened. I was just going to post the links so it wouldn't take up so much room but I then thought it would be easier to read all in one post.
Bakerbear -- are you sure you meant to say 6 months or did you mean 6 days?!!!!!
LOL LOL
I meant months, but I was being REALLY generous!!
dang. Thanks for the update! I was out all day and kept wondering what was going on! lol
This can't be the first sign of bad behavior for this chick.
I'd love to know what words were exchanged between the MOG and MOB! You know something went down once that ring was snatched back. Good on the MOG. I'd hate to see something precious like that be passed down to a snotty brat prone to deceit and thievery.
wow...I just read all 54 pages.
OP - way to go. I would have done the same thing. No money - no cake. I do not work for free.
Prayers for MOG - she is going to need them. Her new DIL is a goofy, stupid, insipid brat. Maybe new DIL is infertile. One can hope.
I have a confession to make: I cheated. I didn't read all 20 pages that have popped up in the last day. Sheesh! (Thanks xstitcher for posting the summary! you rock!)
Oh, the dramz! I LOVE that MOG snatched that rock back. Hell yeah. We should all send the MOG some treats
Im probably not going to add anything that isnt in the past 54 pages but the first thing I thought is if you cant afford a wedding cake why are you having 350 people? Seriously? Have a quiet refined and classy wedding for 150. I had a friend who was so poor that she had a wedding where the guests brought the food like a pot luck. It was amazing and everyone was generous.
Your cake is beautiful.
I just read your recap. Brilliant. I would have never scrolled through all pages, but JUST LOVED the recap. Great story. Good for you. I am still having a hard time believing someone could do that.
Thanks for the update xstitcher...I love that you have no life hehe...hope your migraine is completely gone...hate those!

So glad to be of service ladies!

ok, I know I'm probably crazy for stepping in on page 52 (!!) and saying this ..but feel bad for the bride. What she did was totally inexcusable, wrong, illegal..etc..BUT..
She's no axe murderer, she's no Bernie Madoff..
To have your wedding ruined, ring taken back, Mother in law leave the wedding, embarrassed in front of guests...It's really just sad.
I am in no way saying the OP did anything wrong. I think she handled it exactly as it should have been, but I still feel bad for the bride. I know ..she brought it on herself..but still. What a way to start a life.
Oh, yeah...I feel sad, too...
Sad we didn't get to boil this bride and her mother in buttercream!!!!
Maybe the groom can ask his mom for the ring back(and pawn it) so he can hire an attorney for his new bride!!!!
Actually, a true lesson learned would be to make her read all 56 pages of this forum. Maybe then she would see the wrongs in her actions. So many people have been glued to this story!!! I find it amazing!!
You guys are great.
Ok, so I am coming in on pg 54, don't have much time for cc since I opened my new store, but can I just say kudos to OP, I would not have had the guts to withhold the cake on the day of the wedding! Hope I never hit a situation like this, I would definitely be the one coming up short. Beautiful cake BTW.
dsevens and MOG are both awesome in this saga!
however.. I have one thought flittering in my mind (big space.. no coffee as of yet so there's a lot of flittering room, lol)
I wonder if the bride was flustered at the salon because she knows her mother's behavior.. and if it was her mother that cancelled the check behind the brides back.
I know most likely it's not the scenario... but weddings bring out the worst in people and I have have many memorable memories from.... errrr.. well I have a lot of bad memories from mine. If MOB is that conniving and arrogant.. it's possible that she was the one responsible for the entire check issue.
I feel sorry for the families because they have been brought down and brought themselves down and they are affecting the other people in the family. Like mog who took such heart wrenching action and rightfully so. When it should be such a beautiful event it was a negative ugly affair.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I said this early on but it's still true true true. The cake makers who knowingly undercharge/undercut and the people who write those how to be cheap when planning a wedding should be stopped.
The bride's gonna have to suffer her own consequences no question about that.
But stop under pricing. It does make a difference.
