Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Hat Cake With Baby Converse

Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Hat Cake With Baby Converse

The hat is made from half of a 6 in ball pan and a 6in layer. I used swiss meringue buttercream under the fondant. The brim of the hat was made a few days ahead and it's made out of gumpaste. I used my son's baseball hat to trace the shape onto parchment. I used the parchment to cut my gum paste. I then wrapped the hat with plastic wrap and placed the gumpaste brim on the hat to dry. I also made the shoes out of gum paste a few days in advance. I found a tutorial and printout stencils on pinterest. To do the seems and stitching, I measured around my cake and divided by six. I made a mark at each measurement and used bakers twine to make small indent lines. Once I was done I went back over the lines with my icing smoother to indent them a little more. A simple ruler would work for this but I didn't have one. I then just added the stitching on either side with the fondant stitch tool. The little air holes that go on top of the hat are made by rolling out the fondant and I used the opening of an icing tip to cut out the circles. I then took the end of a paintbrush to make the holes in the center and used a pointed tool to make little indentations around the circle to mimic the stitching. Just attached them with a little water. For the logo, I printed an image off my computer, cut it out, layer it over my rolled out gumpaste, and used an exacto knife to cut it out. The brim is simple attached by pressing it into the cake and I added a toothpick into the cakd right underneath the center of the brim for extra support. I then cut a very thin piece of black fondant to lay over the seam and cover any gaps. I hope you like it and found this helpful!

Cupcake Bouquet And How To Transport Them

Cupcake Bouquet And How To Transport Them

I made up these two cupcake bouquets this past weekend for a bridal shower. One bouquet is chocolate and the other is yellow. For the cupcakes I actually used a doctored cake mix. I used Betty Crocker add an extra egg, butter instead of oil, milk instead of water and a tsp of vanilla. The buttercream is an American Buttercream. And a 2D tip to create the hydrangea look. I used a 6in styrofoam ball which I pushed into the pot. I also added some packing tape where the ball and pot meet. I covered the ball with a square piece of green tissue paper which is held down at the base of the ball with a rubber band. If you're worried about the band sliding up, you can add some tooth picks slightly above the band. I then took some darker green tissue paper squares and tucked them into the band all around the bottom. To place the cupcakes on the ball, start at the bottom. I use an extra cupcake liner to figure out placement before I start adding them onto the ball. For the bottom row I add three toothpicks to the ball. Two on the bottom and one slightly above. You watch hem to be slightly angled so the cupcakes don't slide off. I then take a fourth toothpick and insert it through the top of the cupcake liner and into the ball for extra support. The rest of the cupcakes can be added with 2 toothpicks. And lastly cut some tissue squares and add to fill in the holes. If you have any large holes (like I did) add a toothpick in the middle of the hole so that you can wedge a few pieces around it. To transport, I took a 10x10 cake box. I cut a 6" cirlce out of the top of the lid. I also trimmed the bottom of the lid about an inch so that when I inserted the pot it wouldn't be lifted. I put the lid inside the bottom box. You may need to adjust how much you cut depending on the size of your pot. And lastly I placed a piece of grippy shelf liner from the dollar store underneath each and placed them on the floor of my car.
