Purple And Green Fleur-De-Lis Birthday Cake
Second attempt at a topsy-turvy cake... they're harder than they look! I had a rough time with this one, but in the end it turned out pretty cute. The feathers really make the cake! The whole cake was fudge marble filled and frosted with buttercream icing and then covered and decorated with fondant.

Penguin Pool Party!
Everything is edible on this 12-inch by 18-inch, 4-inch tall sheet cake. 7 penguins playing in a pool for a little girl's 7th birthday party held in her backyard pool. Pool on cake is shaped like the little girl's pool. Penguins are playing with a beach ball, funoodles, jumping off the diving board and lying in the sun - all things the birthday girl enjoys doing in her own pool. Message on front of cake and little picture on corner of deck supposed to resemble sidewalk chalk drawings - another favorite activity of the birthday girl. When her mom called me to make this cake, she didn't know what she wanted. She told me that her daughter wanted a pool party... and she loves penguins. I said, "Let's put penguins in the pool," and the rest...

Soccer Girl
Figure was entirely hand-sculpted from modeling chocolate. She sat about 4" tall. Cake was decorated with buttercream and fondant. If anyone could offer any tips on painting the face of the figures, I would be eternally grateful! I used food coloring and a toothpick to add some details to the eyes, but sometimes I see people who've made figures and the eyes look so REAL! I wonder how they do the whites and the irises and the highlights in the eyes. I will continue to fumble through in my own trial-and-error fashion, but if anyone knows of any good paintbrushes or brands of colors or special way to mix the paint... please tell me!

Modern Circles Baby Shower Cake
This was my first attempt at carving a topsy-turvy cake. Top tier was strawberry cake, bottom was confetti, both tiers filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream, covered and decorated with fondant; topper made of sugarpaste. Cake was designed by mommy-to-be from some bedding she bought for the nursery.

Another Eiffel Tower Cake
This is so weird... I was asked to make this 3D Eiffel Tower cake for a 14th birthday party, and I thought, "Oh, that will be different!" Then the very next day I see one that is the same design as the one I plan on doing with the banner, only in blue. Then the next day there was that lovely white and brown one that was SO PERFECT and makes mine look like a mess... then there is that tiered cake with the Eiffel Tower painted on and the red flowers... you all know the one :-) Anyway, here is my version, in case no one's tired of it yet. It was all fudge marble cake, from top to bottom. The base was 8 inches square. it tapers up to a 6-inch square layer, and then on up to the top, which was about 2 inches square. That's as narrow as I could get it without the cake falling apart on me. I wish now that I had added some cereal treats to the top to get that nice slender look on top, but oh well... there's always next time. Anyway, the birthday girl loved it, and that's all that matters! So TFL!!!

Blue, Black And Silver Round Wedding Cake
This design was a collaboration between me and the bride. She had her colors and she had some pictures of cakes that she liked, but she didn't want hers to look like the pictures. So we went back and forth, and this is what we landed on. Originally, the whole cake was going to be blue with the black vines and silver lilies, but then we decided to alternate the colors, which really made the design pop. It's a 6" red velvet cake, 8" strawberry cake, 10" fudge marble and 12" strawberry. The top and third tier are actually 6" tall, and the other two are the standard 4", which was also a design element that the bride really liked. All the decorations are fondant. This is one of my most favorite cakes I've made so far.

Giant Cupcake Birthday Cake
I actually ordered a big cupcake pan because I don't like the Wilton one at the store, but even though I ordered it 2 weeks before I had to make my cake, it still didn't get to my house on time! So this cupcake I sculpted myself, following the tutorial on Jessicakes' blog. Thank you, mrsmudrash! This cupcake mimics hers very closely, except not as neat and tidy (well, duh!) and the bottom was decorated to match a banner for a Sweet 16 birthday party, with zebra stripes and leopard spots! It's all strawberry cake filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream, and then everything else is fondant, even the strawberry :-) This cupcake was about 5 inches at the base and about 11 inches tall.

Flowery Birdhouse Cake
Okay, so I totally copied this design from the picture on this website http://www.theswellelife.com/swelle_life/2011/02/cupcake-monday-the-bird-house-edition-.html . Kandy Cakes' is gingerbread and mine is cake :-) Half vanilla, half chocolate, filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream, covered and decorated with fondant; I show pictures of the front and back of the cake. The front had a little bird on it made of modeling chocolate, but I almost like the back better with no bird. The tree and flowers are hand-painted using gel paste food coloring mixed with a tiny bit of vodka. Thanks for looking! This cake was for my grandma's birthday, so no money made of the totally ripped design! Tee-hee

Rainbow Explosion Birthday Cake
This was definitely a rainbow explosion! Lexi, the birthday girl (hence the purple L on the top tier) came to me with a sketch of the cake she wanted complete with notes. She had really done her homework! She and her mom were so much fun to work with!!! The cake itself was vanilla cake colored using the rainbow tie-dye technique (no pics of inside yet :-( Then the whole cake was covered and decorated with fondant. The middle tier with the rainbow sunglasses is actually the print on a pair of shorts that the birthday girl had; she actually wore the shorts to my house the day she ordered and I took a picture of them so I wouldn't forget what it looked like. Anyway, the she wanted the zebra stripes and leopard spots and the edible streamers bursting from the top and sides... needless to say this cake was great fun to make, and the birthday girl was overjoyed to see her own vision come to life!

Pink Orchids On Navy And White
Well, what can I say... my fist attempt at stenciling... it didn't go as smoothly as I'd liked (pun totally intended :-) I used buttercream, and I think next time I'll try it with royal icing. Also, I think it would definitely be easier stenciling on fondant rather than buttercream. Even though my cake was well-chilled, the navy frosting still blended into the white a bit... oh, well, still a pretty little cake. Nice to have the big orchids to cover up some flaws :-) Those orchids are silk, by the way... still haven't attempted to make them out of sugar paste yet... someday... anyway, there's always next time...

Another Pretty Petal Cake In Yellow :-)
Thanks to MyCakeSchool.com's blog and all the other inspiring cake pics I've seen here, I decided to try my hand at this very easy, yet beautiful cake design! I made it for my mother-in-law's birthday. The top tier was strawberry with lemon filling, and the bottom was fudge marble with chocolate filling. I wanted it to look like it went from darker yellow at the top to pale yellow at the bottom, like a gradient, so I actually had to do one row of dots at a time all the way around the cake and then lighten my frosting and do the next row. It was a little bit time-consuming, but still a lot of fun! Oh, and the flower is made of sugar paste :-) It was supposed to be a peony, but it's not really... I don't know what it is... LOL!!!

Blue Ruffled Barbie Princess Birthday Cake
Made this for my daughter's third birthday. She picked the Barbie doll out herself, and then I made the edible skirt to match :-) Four layers of moist vanilla cake filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream, and then covered and decorated with fondant. This is one of my most favorite cakes I've ever done... it's the only cake I've ever done where I really didn't want to cut it :-) I'm a Barbie girl at heart!!!

Hannah Montana Guitar Birthday Cake - Life Size
This life-size guitar cake was decorated with fondant on the outside, marble cake with dark choc ganache filling on the inside! I had a blast making this cake, and I'm not even a Hannah Montana fan. This cake is true to life, and if it weren't so incredibly moist and delicious, you could probably pick it up and play a song... hahaha!

Pink And Green Argyle Birthday Cake
Made this one for my baby girl who keeps growing, despite all my best efforts to keep her a baby forever ;-) She wanted pink and green with fondant and frosting - those were her only requirements, so I made this. Top tier was vanilla cake, bottom was chocolate, all filled and frosted with pink vanilla buttercream and then covered and decorated with marshmallow fondant. The 3 on top is also made of fondant. Happy Birthday to my Chloe!!!
