70Th Birthday Cake
I made this small 2-tiered cake for a woman's 70th birthday. The cake is vanilla orange with a coconut cream filling. She is an amazing quilter and also raises guinea fowl. The top tier design was based on one of her quilts. The bottom tier is covered with hand painted feathers of the guinea fowl, with the white dots piped on top of the painted feathers.

Storybook Cake
This is a cake I made for 2 girls who were turning 10. Neither of them are very girly and both love to read. I decided to make my first book cake and make up a story about each girl incorporating thinks they love to do. The left half is French vanilla cake with a strawberry cream filling and the right half is red velvet with cream cheese filling. Covered in marshmallow fondant. Hand painted the book borders and the girls' names. The stories are edible image prints. It was my first time to use the edible images too. Didn't blend in as well as I'd hoped, not sure I did it exactly right.

Hellboy Cake
This is the Hellboy cake I made for the Showcake category for That Takes The Cake 2011 in Austin, TX. I'm a beginner with no work cake experience and have only been making cakes since August of 2010 and this was my first show competition entry so I was super happy to place in the top 10! I placed 8th. :) He started to come apart pretty early on, poor Hellboy! I learned so much at the show and it was so fun! His forearms and head are rice cereal treats and the rest is Devil's Food cake (which I thought was perfect for Hellboy) and he is covered in homemade marshmallow fondant.

Tropical Flower Cake
A gluten-free 3-tiered cake made for a yoga studio staff party. Went for a plaster-look rough cream cheese icing and filling on a vanilla chai tea cake. With stargazer lilies, plumeria and moth orchids. Made the gum paste flowers "freehand" with no cutters or veiners, teaching myself to make them through trial and error and looking at photos of the real flowers. I am so happy with how they all came out.

Gluten-Free Birthday Cake
This is the cake I made for a friend for her birthday. It is a 4 layer, 6" round, gluten-free vanilla cake with cream cheese icing and a gum paste Stargazer Lily (her favorite flower.) I went with a rough-iced look that I've been seeing done on cakes. I also made the gum paste flower. It was my first ever gum paste flower to make and I was so happy with it and she got to keep it. :)

Star Wars - Yoda Cake
Taking my love of cooking for people & combining with artistic ability, getting into cake decorating. Self-taught so far but starting basic decorating classes soon. This is my first try at making a sculpted cake. This is the 4th cake I've ever decorated. The 2nd one to involve stacking and 2nd one to involve making and using fondant (1st two were single layer buttercream with piping designs.) Pretty sure I've found my passion! My 5th cake will be another sculpted, haven't decided what yet.
