This was a cake for my dad's 80th birthday this past weekend. He is known for having a toolbox with him wherever he goes. The tools were gumpaste and painted/dusted to look dirty and worn. The toolbox was painted using a wide paint brush with airbrush colors.

9x13 cake carved to resemble a book. Covered in fondant. Edible image used for the book pages (smaller than I'd originally wanted them to be). The Snitch was Styrofoam covered in fondant, then painted. The glasses were from a costume shop. Turned out that it was cheaper for me to buy a plastic pair of glasses than to make them myself.

Umbrella and silhouette were cut out of gumpaste by using an exacto knife. The wooden slats on the sides of the bottom tier were made from modeling chocolate. Fresh flowers on the top.

Cake was based upon one done by Cake Heart. Bucket was made from styrofoam and covered in 50/50 fondant and gum paste. Sand was made using crushed graham crackers and Nilla wafers. Flip flops are modeling chocolate and the flower is made from gum paste.

Hot air balloon with gravity-defying effect. Balloon was styrofoam covered in modeling chocolate. The animals were all made from modeling chocolate. The hot air balloons on the sides of the cake were cut from fondant using an x-acto knife.

Top tier is covered in fondant and painted with a pink luster dust to look like satin. Middle tier is covered in sprinkles and painted with gold luster dust. This tier is fake, so the gold being edible was not an issue. Bottom tier is covered in IMBC, then topped with Claire Bowman's gold Cake Lace. The umbrella was made from gumpaste as well as the flowers filling it.
