Sushi Bento Box Birthday Cake
This is the finished cake. I had made several sushi pieces that were to go into it. Sadly, the lid for the box couldn't stand up to the humidity and fell apart at the seams. So no pic of the box with the lid :( The cake was a modified chocolate WASC recipe, with dark chocolate SMBC. The box and chopsticks were made from homemade chocolate MMF mixed with tylose. The sushi was made from MMF and RKT. I had a blast making the tiny little fish on the nama-shirasu gunkan. The birthday girl loved it and didn't want to cut it. TFL!

Sushi
I'm in the process of making a sushi bento box birthday cake for a friend who loves sushi. I only have the sushi made so far, cake is waiting to be iced and for the panels to dry. I thought it would be fun to plate the sushi and take a progress pic:) The sushi is made out of MMF, rice crispy treats and chocolate fudge cakeballs. I used a 50/50 solution of vodka and corn syrup to make a glaze for the shiny pieces. TFL!

Night Ef/ Darnassian Inspired Cake
I had some leftover cake and fondant and wanted to practice some decorating. As an avid World of Warcraft player, I was inspired by the Night Elf lore and the city of Darnassus (yes I'm a nerd :P ). I borrowed some of the themes, textures and symbols from the game. The symbols are from the Silverwing Sentinel tabards and banners. The moon on top was taken from the Night Elf crest. It didn't turn out great, but I had a lot of fun doing it! I used homemade MMF, hence the weird covering and cracking. I used royal icing to pipe the symbols and scrolls, then painted with Nu Silver and Aztec Gold luster dust. All the leaves, flowers and vines are MMF. Sorry the pics are blurry, the batteries in my camera died and had to use my cell phone. TFL!

Anniversary Gift Box Cake
This cake was very challenging! I never made a gift box cake nor did I have any idea on how to do it... and I suck at following directions. Loosely based on Bakerella's cake ball box design. I covered a rectangular cake with fondant, then made gum paste/fondant mixed panels and stuck them on after they dried for a few days. I wanted the lid to come off so I could stick some cake balls on top... which turned out to be a bad idea. The oils from the chocolate went through the paper cups and right through the false bottom! Had problems with the lid cracking and breaking apart. Sugar free chocolate cake, sugar free chocolate mocha buttercream and filled with sugar free raspberry jam.

Olivia
Small cake I made for my cousin's 4th birthday. I wanted to make a gum paste tiara, since she is a little princess! I played with the tiara too much before it dried thoroughly... was able to save it but still looked wonky. Painted it with Nu Silver luster dust and vodka. Rainbow colored cake and white chocolate butter cream.

Winter Birthday Cake
This is the cake I made for my son's first birthday. I barely knew anything about cake making, just got a recipe for marshmallow fondant and went from there, lol. I didn't even use supports or cake boards >.< Surprisingly it stayed together! But now I know better! French vanilla cake with vanilla bean butter cream. All decorations are made out of marshmallow fondant.

My First (And Last) Wedding Cake
I think this cake gave me a few gray hairs! I was so nervous and wish I could go back and do many things differently on it. My brother and SIL asked me to make their wedding cake. I said I would do it as my gift to them. My SIL provided me a picture of what she wanted. I'm not sure who made the original cake, so I don't know who to give credit to. So if you recognize the design, let me know! I was going to make 10-12-16 size cakes, but I was having a lot of problems with the larger cakes not baking right. We were going to use fresh flowers but decided to use gum paste/fondant roses instead. I tried adding dew drops using melted sugar. It looked okay at first, the the droplets got cloudy and just looked like white flecks. I should have used piping gel... My butter cream cracked horribly, the tiers bulged even after I let them settle, and the lettering was of center and not spaced correctly. I added fondant pearls as a last ditch effort to fill in empty spaces. The flower on the top tier was inspired by Ron Ben-Israel. They said they liked the cake, but I was embarrassed by it and knew it could have been better. It was white cake with vanilla rum soaking syrup, and Mexican vanilla bean butter cream.
