Cake For My Spin Teacher
8" chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. Birthday cake for my spin teacher Alan! He is always so positive and inspiring at 5:30am! I wanted to do something nice for him so I made him this cake with the spin studio logo on the top and his inspiring words in hearts around the cake (those are moves we do on the bike). My favorite: Finish it!

Anniversary Celebration
I donated this cake for two Sisters celebrating 75 and 25 years of service in their religious Order. They asked for Red/white flowers. The bottom is a half sheet chocolate cake filled with a Lindt chocolate mousee. The other layers are lemon cake filled with elderflower SMBC and lemon curd. My lesson learned is no more buttercream cakes in July! They originally wanted to put the cake near open doors (where it is over 80 degrees outside). I had to refuse and tell them to close the doors and turn on the AC. Even though they moved the cake to the back of room, it was still fairly warm inside and the doors were open. I cut the cake and it held up ok but it could have been a disaster. I just don't understand why people who get a free cake don't listen! ok rant over.

Vow Celebration Cake
I donated this cake for a Sister's Final Vow to enter her order. She was younger and only asked for purple/ivory color and tulips so I made the cake fairly simple. I give up on those crisp corners since I've tried everything and even paid for this contraption and it didn't work either. I think I just need to practice on small cakes. Everything was from scratch. Top tier was marble cake with raspberry filling, there was an extra 8" that I made gluten free for her dad, then 8 and 10" were vanilla with raspberry jam filling, bottom was 12" chocolate with white chocolate Chambord filling with mini chips on top.

Bali Dive Trip Cake
Just returned from Bali doing some diving and climbing there. We had a party with everyone so I made the cake. I used the colors from their T shirt to do the fondant and the Wilton mold for accents. Seemed like the blue border was really difficult to make and not sure if it was me, the mold or the fondant (blue Wilton). Cake was Dark Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling - 9" square.

For Engaged Couples Group
I based this on a cake I saw on Williams Sonoma (I think!) for Valentine's Day. The Marriage in the Lord class at my church needed a cake for 20 couples so I added on to the simple design the heart with the little hearts inside and the border. 10 inch square scratch lemon cake with lemon curd filling. I didn't have time to completely smooth out the frosting but I did do a little better on my edges/corners but am still working on it (square cakes are hard to frost!).

Practice Cake For A Friend
Did not bake much last year due to family issues so just getting back. Did this little 8 inch for my pilates teacher who is going on maternity leave. Practicing piping. I wanted the comb to come out better but I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. I painted the flower with petal dust. I guess it was ok.

Anniversary And Birthday Celebration
First I have to thank Bashini whose navy and cameo cake inspired this cake and she was kind enough to provide some help in my trying to construct the cake. K8Memphis also had a great thread on how to put a tiered cake like this together and FioreCakes who also gave me some good advice. This is a 12/10/8/6 tier with chocolate/whipped cream filling;vanilla with Chambord cream cheese;and last two top tiers are lemon with lemon curd all made from scratch. My brand new lower double oven broke right before this and I had to make the cakes in one oven which took longer but it worked out. I still have not figured out how to get my edges crisp (and straight)- was going to try the upside down frosting method but was too tired to try it. I will have to work on that.

I Made This For A Marriage Prep Class At My Church I Originally Wanted To Do A Simple Two Tier For 20 People With Just A Few Design Element
I made this for a marriage prep class at my church. I originally wanted to do a simple two tier for 20 people with just a few design elements. But they told me three days before that they had 60 people coming (20 couples with 10 couple sponsors). So I just used it as a practice cake and used some things I had on hand. I would like to try the silhouette again but maybe in gray instead of black. I think it looked too stark against the white and redo the design.

Final Vow Cake
I made this for 4 Sisters who were taking their final vows. It was a reception for 200 people and I donated the cake. I wanted to try out the fondant molds and I thought they were easy to work with. I dusted the flowers with claret petal dust and the orchids with plum petal dust. I used SPS to stack the cakes and I leveled them to 4" and checked with a level before frosting. The restaurant ruined the cake when they moved it ripping off the ribbon and damaging the cake. People at the reception thought the top tier was going to fall off. It was a lot of work and in the end I was just embarrassed to be associated with it.

Little Sister Chocolate Explosion Cake
When I first joined cake central, one of my first saved cakes was a cake by Betz which was a chocolate explosion cake. I thought one day I will try to make a similar cake to that. So this is it. It is a chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse filling and buttercream frosting with fondant accents. I filled the center part with crushed oreos.

Sister's Birthday Cake
My older sister doesn't have her birthday until November but decided since it was a milestone (60th) that she wanted to celebrate with my other sister and dad's birthdays which are in July. I saw this design on my cake school and wanted to try it. I thought it was really easy and came out looking good (well, for me it was good). She wanted a funfetti cake so I did a 3 layer 9 inch and filled it with raspberry cream cheese Chambord filling.

Bicycle Club Celebration
As you can tell, I haven't used fondant in a while. I had this great idea for a group of women cyclists who were celebrating a long ride they completed (hilly and through a forest). I had never made a topsy turvy but I'm sure you couldn't tell that either. The directions for the cake made a huge cake - it was supposed to have a 3rd tier but I gave that up.The fondant was Satin Ice but I can't blame them- it was operator error. Had a really hard time getting the fondant smooth - it cracked and tore. I had buttercream underneath and it looked like a lumpy mess. I just covered up as much as I could with fondant decorations, then put some stickers on the board. I was supposed to make different bike's but at that point realized my skill level was waaaaay below this cake. At least it tasted good - it was a black magic cake with oreo cookie and cream filling. It was a free cake as I was practicing. Guess I need a lot more practice.

Lemon Cake With Lemon Curd Filling Each Layer Is Sliced Into Four With Curd In Between And Then Frosting In Between And Lemon Cream Cheese
Lemon cake with lemon curd filling (each layer is sliced into four with curd in between and then frosting in between) and lemon cream cheese buttercream. The recipe is one of the top 10 cake recipes on epicurious. I had trouble with the sps system but I'm not sure why. I have used it before without any trouble. I had to use the buttercream to cover it up instead of the orange fondant band. This is the final vow cake for Sister Guadalupe - a younger nun who professed her final vows. She loves lemon and they gave me 120 lemons from their meyer lemon tree to use for the cake etc.

I Made This Half Sheet Along With Two Other Half Sheet Cakes No Flowers On Those For A Vow Ceremony For The Sacred Heart Sisters This Cak
I made this half sheet along with two other half sheet cakes (no flowers on those) for a vow ceremony for the Sacred Heart Sisters. This cake is a white cake with a raspberry chambord cream cheese filling. They tilted the cake up to take pictures and it pulled on the foil! I thought the cake was going to go sliding off onto the floor.

Halloween Cupcakes
I made these cupcakes as the dessert for a teen dinner at my church. They thought I bought these at a bakery! Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla bean frosting - I brought the vanilla beans back from my Madagascar trip and red velvet with cream cheese frosting. The picks were from Fancy Flours along with the liners. I forgot my camera so I had to use my phone so it didn't take the best picture.

Simple Flag Cake
I made this for my husband's work to try out an orange dreamsicle recipe. I used the WASC Orange Dreamsicle on cc except I used only orange and vanilla extract. Then I poked the cake and brushed it with an fresh orange glaze. I filled it with a cream cheese filling that had orange juice and orange zest. And I frosted it with vanilla buttercream. I made the flag out of fondant and gumpaste.

Purple Hippo Ballerina Cake
For a 6 year old daughter of a friend from my church. The Hippo ballerina is not my design - it matches her invitation. I made it out of fondant and gumpaste. Originally she wanted a shaped cake like donkeemom's hippo but I did not feel confident enough to do that - plus she needed to feed 45 hungry people. Thanks to donkeemom for sending me instructions and I will attempt her cake when I get more practice. Cake was dark chocolate with oreo cookie and cream filling. It is about 4 inches high so very tall and they ate the entire thing!

17 Year Old Niece Birthday Cake
This was a last minute request from my sister for her daughter's cake. I did not have time to come up with anything great so I decided to practice the rose design and use some Tappits I had not used. It came out ok. It did taste pretty good - Hershey Especially Dark Chocolate Cake with my chocolate mousse filling that I have on cc. TFL

Chocolate Retirement Cake With Rose Design
I just wanted to try the rose swirl since everyone else had done it. It was really easy and it looks so much more impressive! 10 inch Chocolate WASC with my chocolate mousse filling (see my recipe on cc). Also, I am finding that as I continue to practice my torting, stacking and filling I am getting better at it. It is true that practice does help!

50Th Jubilee Cake
I donated this cake for a religious order and their celebration of a nun's 50th year in the Order. I had never done a 4 tier cake before - only 2 tier. I have to say the SPS system made me a believer! It worked perfectly and the instructions were fantastic! Thanks to everyone on cc for helping me! The cakes are 12/10/8/6 with three tiers of WASC with raspberry chambord cream cheese filling and one 10 of chocolate WASC with Emerils raspberry curd with fresh raspberry filling. I made the roses tipped in gold with gumpaste/fondant and painted the leaves with a gold glaze (I needed 4 coats for each leaf). Almost the entire cake was gone so they really liked it. I also made a lemon half sheet with fresh lemon curd filling. A lot of work but for some very good people.

Chocolate Birthday Cake
I made this on very short notice for a friend. He didn't give me much guidance except to tell me he wanted chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and "conservative" guy because he was in the Air Force for 20 yrs. I was going to put a chocolate flower, anemone, on top but my husband said "Absolutely not! You can't put a flower on a that guy's cake!". so this is what I came up with - Air Force symbol. I feel a little embarrassed about the design - it's not that great. But it sure smelled good! Hershey Black Magic Cake with Hershey Extra Dark Frosting and Chocolate Mousee Filling.
