This cake is decorated in buttercream. I made this for a little girl who loves rainbows and colors. So the outside has a nice simple rainbow of color, but let me tell you, you should have seen her look of surprise when we cut into it! I dyed the batter for each layer a color, and they are about 1/2 inch in height each. Yes, it was a very tall cake!
This is iced in buttercream and decorated with handmade chocolate butterflies. Unfortunately I made a rookie mistake and forgot to cover my cake board, so the bottom doesn't look too pretty :-/
I striped the icing colors, and piped the cupcakes with a swirl to give them the lollipop effect. Then, I inserted candy sticks into the sides and glued a fabric ribbon on to match each color.
I got this design idea from chk96, then I modified it a little for the party I was doing.
This was decorated with buttercream icing. For the blood I used colored piping gel, and the skulls are made out of white chocolate. I detailed the skulls with edible black dust.
This was my first attempt at fondant. The topping is a rocky road popcorn mixture made like you would rice krispy treats. Tastes really good!
I made this in Course 1 of the Wilton Cake Classes. It's decorated entirely with buttercream.
