Eiffel Tower Cake
Client found a cake she was in love with and brought me a photo. I re-created it. The bottom two tiers are faux. 7 (7!) batches of buttercream here, folks. Craziness. It's yellow cake with buttercream frosting and fondant accents and inedible gems. Topper is gumpaste with inedible gems attached.

Knitting Class Cake
Cake for FIL. He and MIL are raising a 5yo and 3yo. He says "I'd love to stay for playgroup, but I have this knitting class". About twice a year he goes out shopping and comes home with a car. So I have him sitting in his leather recliner with his headphones (they are ever present) on, knitting a car while one of the kids screams for his attention, one plays a recorder, and my 3yo makes a humongous mess. I did this very fast so it is definitely not perfect, but it was SO funny!

1987 Mondavi Reserve Wine Bottle
Very fast rush cake I made for BIL's birthday. I found out I needed a cake about 8 hours before the cake was required. I like how the label came out even though it was rushed. Since it was for family, I just put the cake on an uneven leftover board and didn't give much thought to the shape. The cake is chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling and frosting. The label is painted fondant.

Buttons And Bows Cake
Found the inspiration for this online and adapted it. She wanted to incorporate frogs, hence the ribbon. I feel a little weird putting out a cake without anything on top but I think anything up there would just be too much. It's pretty busy as is. Buttercream with fondant "buttons" and cloth ribbons. I made the mistake of putting the buttercream-covered cake in the fridge overnight and when I took it out to decorate it started sweating like crazy. Crossing my fingers for tonight!

Wu-Tang Sweet 16
It was supposed to be zebra stripes at first, then we decided on more spike-like stripes, but ended up looking very much like hidden Wu-Tang symbols. Honestly I love it. This was my first cake with more than two tiers. Yes, there are wires stuck in the cake. No, I'm not proud! I couldn't figure out how to stick the stars in. We live and we learn though! I loved the cake and it looked beautiful in the country club setting where the party was, on a big table. My first big cake.

Crown Cake
Buttercream with fondant accents. The crown's shape was held up while drying in a bowl filled with flour to support the outward curves, and I kneaded in some GumTex to help it firm up. The gold is luster dust and vodka, painted on. This was my first draping experience and it was easier than I thought. The little rosettes I made with strips of fondant, frilled a bit and rolled up then shaped. The little flowers were just cut and shaped, then dusted in the center with pink and red petal dust.

Bears 2009 Slouch Cap
Yellow cake and buttercream with gumpaste brim (coated in buttercream) and gumpaste hand painted 1970 NFL logo. Dark navy frosting color was achieved using about half a bottle of blue gel over 6c frosting and about 1.5 grams of powdered black color. This is my first time using the powdered black frosting, and I'm pleased with it. The frosting has no bitter taste and darkened beautifully. I used the food dehydrator to quickly dry the gumpaste for the NFL logo. I had an NFL cap sitting by me as a model.

Girly Frog And Monkey Cake
This cake was for twins. One wanted a frog, the other wanted a monkey, so mom merged the two. 10" and 6" yellow cakes with buttercream frosting and filling. Frog and monkey are RKT base, frog is covered in fondant and monkey is covered with chocolate buttercream, with fondant for arms and legs. Dots are buttercream.
