Inspired by the "Hugs & Stitches" theme/decor, this is a 6" Round /8" Petal/10" Round cake. Top & Bottom Tier (three-layer) are Dark Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream, while the Center Tier (two-layer) and Smash cake (one-layer) are Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Buttercream. Fondant/Gum Paste accents all hand cut, molded, and painted with gel food color/vodka. I used a canvas fabric to imprint the cut-outs with texture, and I'm over the moon happy with how this turned out! I'm looking forward to many more birthday cakes for this little girl...

For Dad
Done on the fly for an impromptu birthday celebration... Dark Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Buttercream and fresh Strawberries. Sign post is rice krispy treat covered in fondant and painted with Pearl Dust/Vodka. Lettering cut by hand, Clay Gun used for the outside black line, I "painted" the cake board with colored royal icing and added some gumpaste flowers left over from a previous project... they did make it appear a little more "girly" than I had anticipated, but my dad's not afraid of his feminine side so no harm done.

The Frog
6" Round Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream (my new favorite combo!!), for my uncle's 70th Birthday... his nickname is "The Frog" and for the life of my, I have no idea why?!. It was served with 5 dozen cupcakes - Chocolate & Peanut Butter, Strawberries & Cream, and White Chocolate & Raspberry. I made Green Velvet cake balls so I could make little frogs for the cupcakes, but they look like little globby monsters instead. I still think they're cute, though. Cupcake wrappers were hand-cut from a home-made template.

Sushi Revisited
12"-10" Tapered Rectangle, White Chocolate Cake with Raspberry SMBC, Black Satin Ice Fondant, Sushi pieces are cake with fondant accents. Theme was based on Ribbon seen on cake board, design based on Sushi Serving dishes I found online. Will not use pure white fondant for rice in the future, it's a tad too bright. Photos are slightly out of focus because my aperture was set incorrectly. Live and learn.

I loved making this cake!!! Lots of firsts for me... First stenciling, tallest single fondant covered tier (the 6" double barrel), first attempt at edible jewels, first fail at edible jewels (went with gum paste & luster dust instead), first and last time I use a boxed cake mix based recipe (I definitely prefer scratch recipes), and first transportation trouble... the cake was rather tall and narrow, smallest tier was 4". Thanks to Stellastarchild for sharing her converse shoe pattern and directions! The stencil damask pattern, color scheme, and overall design for this cake is based on the party's invitation... see my blog for more details.

Jungle Themed 1St Birthday
I know I need to iron my backdrop, but it was hell just trying to get this cake out the door on time... which I wasn't quite able to do, looongg story. I did have a great time with the modeling, though. Learned a lot about what I am truly capable of accomplishing, in the best possible sense! From top to bottom: Vanilla Cake with Vanilla IMBC, Strawberry Cake with Vanilla IMBC, Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter BC filling (YUM!) and Vanilla IMBC. All covered in Chocolate Fondant in varying shades... animals modeled in fondant, no GP this time. Thanks for looking!

Valentine's
Chocolate & Vanilla Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing. Checkered Heart: Flooded Red first, sprinkled with red sugar, and let dry while working on other cookies. Finished by brushing off excess sugar off and then flooding with white/pink. They didn't last but a day on the kitchen counter... and there are only two of us living here!!! Good thing I took pictures right away.

Baby Boy
Chocolate & Vanilla Sugar Cookies with Fondant & Royal Icing accents... Stripes are extruded from Sugar Gun and rolled to 1/8" before cutting. Argyle diamonds were cut from tiny-TINY pattern, lines are piped. Polka-dots were cut with different sized tips, and then rolled into sheet of fondant (Dk Blue strip from Sugar Gun). Time consuming, YES, but they were a gift and worth every minute. I wouldn't mass produce these from fondant as they are now... I might with RI though.

In A Pineapple, Under The Sea
The "pineapple" barrel cake is made of four, two-layer 6" round tiers of Pineapple Pound Cake with a Pineapple Glaze filling and Vanilla Buttercream. The "Ocean Floor" is a two-layer 12" round Chocolate Chip Cake with Chocolate Buttercream and is covered in Vanilla Fondant. The decorative accents were hand-modeled from Fondant and Gum Paste, and painted with Silver Pearl Dust where applicable. The window glass and Sandy's helmet are made of Poured Sugar. All said and done, this cake stood between 18 & 20-inches tall. www.mandymakescakes.com

Gucci Twirl Collection Watch
Birthday Cake for a Gucci Watch collector... didn't know there was such a thing until last week. Used 6 & 8" Rounds to build the cake, Lemon Cake with Raspberry Buttercream. Designed it to look like it's sitting in a watch box without the lid... next time, I'll build the lid... and make the cake a wee bit smaller. (See the actual watch at http://www.gucci.com/us/us-english/us/cruise-10/timepieces/#0-1057896-218076I16J08171 .)
