Springtime Cakes
I did these two for a Spring meeting yesterday of my spinning and weaving group. Couldnt decide whether to go bright or pink with cherry blossoms so did two smaller book cakes. One choc with ganache and the other WASC decorated with fondant. Loved the look of the gnarly chocolate tree branch and flowers were much easier than I expected. TFL

Jiu Jitsu
This was for a friends husbands birthday who is a black belt sensei. Choc cake layered with ganache covered with choc bc and a blue fondant mat on top. Figures in gp were interesting to make but quite pleased with bodies as the most animated my previous fondant little dudes have been is to have bent arms or legs! Also need more practice piping and trusting my instincts as first lot of piped icing was too runny and I had to go over it a second time with some stiffer. TFL

In The Night Garden
This was done for a friends daughters 2nd birthday. Choc cake with ganache filling, buttercream with fondant accents and gumpaste figures. For the uninitiated theres Upsy Daisy, Iggle Piggle and Makka Pakka on top with lots of daisies, blossom and their gazebo (ready for the chuppa chup to be added for the top knob) as well as whatever sort of plant the red and blue balls are supposed to be. Pinky Ponk is on the side trailing the birthday sign, and I also made her a tombliboos house smash cake. What will the BBC come up with next?

Farewell Cake
This was a last minute cake that I started the day before my work colleague left. I wasn't sure if I could do two cakes in one week, as I also work, but I was fired with enthusiasm when I finished my nephews cake so gave this a try. Buttercream again with fondant and gumpaste accents. The family that have moved away are English and the sign was originally going to be a hitchhiking sign, but the little figures didn't have enough time to dry so I couldn't get Marty to stand up straight. If I knew he'd be lying down (should have known) I'd have cleaned his mouth out a bit. I learn from every cake I do which is great, but the big lesson from this one was dont try to finish a buttercream cake when you have electricians coming. At the critical time I had no water (let alone hot) as I live in the country on tank water, so the buttercream and placement of figures was a five minute dash then out the door. TFL

Guitar Dude Birthday Cake
This was for my eldest nephews birthday. I thought it was time to try my hand at a buttercream finish, as all my recent cakes had relied on fondant for the finish. It was a bit scary and hairy, and I take my hats off to all the CC members who accomplish a clean buttercream finish. The piano keys around the bottom are fondant and the little dude is gumpaste and is modelled on my nephew who is an avid guitar player and always has his hair in his eyes - oh teenagers! I didn't realise the photos still have supports I left in place for transport. The only other photo I have of the cake is with Sol in the backround which isn't allowed on this site. I'll have to see if my sister has some. Sorry.

This Years Easter Cake
Had all the family round to our place this Easter and wanted to try my hand at a few new techniques - a three tiered cake, carved cake, pastillage goblets and also scroll work onto the sides of a cake, and even made a couple of home made easter eggs in the end due to running out - the joys of living in the country!!! Had a ball, and was happy with the end result even though the cake ended up totally different to the original idea in my head. Peanut m&ms in the top goblet cause they were the right shape and colourful. Cakes from scratch - 2 x strawberry and bottom one chocolate all with dark chocolate ganache and chocolate buttercream then covered with fondant. White chocolate coconut flavoured half eggs on bottom tier. Learnt HEAPS and would do it again in a heartbeat. Will definately be doing Christmas chalices this year.

Mouse In Bed With Patchwork Blanket
I donated this to the local Scouts for a fundraiser being held for them in conjunction with the local patchwork society show. Still not looking closely at details as Im going - didnt notice the ears werent even till I looked at the photograps of it, and the quilt was more difficult and gappy than I imagined it would be, but once again learnt heaps by having a go. Twilight Cake
Requested by a friend of my daughters for her 16th birthday. Chess pieces hand molded, so it took a few tries to get a couple that weren't too wonky, but hey, its all practice. Made up the flower as I went along, but at least it's the right colours. Small book cake as well covered with chocolate buttercream and fondant. I really need to learn to clear the table before taking photos lol

Twilight Book Stack
Requested by my teenage Twilighter. Had a ball with this which she took to school for end of term Book Club - made it into the School Magazine at the end of the year! Was amazed how sturdy it all turned out and how easy it was to do. Haven't yet, but will definately do another book stack in the future. TFL
