Angry Birds
Last minute bday cake for my son's 7th bday. I had a little over an hour to make it and didn't know what I was going to do. He mentioned Angry Birds as he walked out the door for his t-ball game and by the time he got home, I surprised him with this. The guy was cut out of fondant. I just did it freehand from a pic on-line. I used my clay extruder to get the black outlines. The superfine one worked great for the detail around the beak and eyes. I could've piped it but the extruder was faster. TFL!

Hawaiian Cake With Hibiscus Flowers
I make this for my kid's schools dessert auction. 2 layer espresso chocolate cake soaked with Kahlua and Kahlua buttercream icing. Pirouette cookies and crushed vanilla wafers for sand. The flowers and surfboards were gumpaste. I didn't get a clean pic before the event. One of the flower petals fell off. 1st time I made the flowers and they were pretty quick and easy. Overall super quick cake to make....it was last minute as always for me. Inspired by other CC'ers.

Thing 1 And Thing 2
Three tier (10/8/6). The figures are all gumpaste. I used a garlic press for the hair. Fish bowl on top is real. I can't seem to figure out the technique to cover the topsy turvy cakes and not get wrinkling at the tapered bases. It worked out for a Dr. Seuss cake though. Made for my friend's twins. She made red velvet cupcakes with blue cotton candy to go with it (one is pictured to the right).

Cocoa Mug
My 10-year old daughter made this for a cake contest at her school fundraiser. It was one filled 6" cake on the bottom with a single layer 6" (not filled) on top. Fondant accents. Buttercream snow and cocoa. This was a simple cake that turned out to be a huge crowd pleaser. Inspired by the many cakes here on CC. Thank you all!

Halloween Birthday Cake
This was my first attempt at a topsy turvy cake. It was for my daughter's 10th birthday. She designed it and she and her friend did most of the decorating details. It turned out pretty good but I had some severe problems with the fondant wrinkling at the bottom from the excess at the tapers. It originally felt nice and sturdy (I did the cut out on the bottom layer to keep the layers parallel) but it still tilted quite a bit and probably was on it's way to falling over when we cut it. Oh well, it tasted great and girls loved it.

Karate Cake
This cake was inspired by karateka. Thank you. I entered this into our local fair and wanted to challenge myself to see if I could pull it off. (I'm just a hobbiest). Everything was made out of fondant/gumpaste. I had trouble with the red fondant. I didn't use enough and overworked it which resulted in many cracks. I didn't place but it still got pretty favorable comments for the overall look.

Mario Bros Cake
I made this for my 6-yr old's birthday party. I used ideas from serveral different Mario Bros cakes on CC (thank you all). I was short on time so I kept it pretty basic. 10", 8" 6" cakes. My kids helped make the little figures. All was fondant expect for the gumpaste stars. Two layers were Cookies n Cream with Cookies n Cream marshmallow filling. One layer was chocoalte with chocolate buttercream. All very kid friendly. Hardly had any leftovers for a party of 20 kids and 15 adults.

Pink & Purple Girl's Birthday Cake
I pretty much duplicated a cake seen on CC by "all_for_my_baby ".....thank you for the idea! I made this for a friend's daughter and this was the design she loved and chose. All fondant & gumpaste. Bows were 50/50 and the stars were 100% gumpaste. The rest was fondant.

Silver Black & Gold New Years
Stars and confetti were all gumpaste, the rest fondant. This was the first time I used luster dust. It look me a few minutes to get the right consistency but in the end I was pleased. My kids helped with the beads & tiny stars. All my inspiration came from cakes posted on this site. Thank you!

Karate Cake
My first attempt at a 3-teir cake. (I'm just a hobbiest). This was made for my kid's karate studio's Christmas party. I had a local cake shop print the logo & the flags. I rolled out the black belt and pressed a real belt into it get the texture. I just used basic techniques. The top two tiers were white chocolate with raspberry filling & the bottom was spice cake with cream cheese.
