One of the first cakes I made this year was a WipeOut cake for my husband's birthday. It was my first time making and using Italian Meringue Buttercream and also airbrushing! Both took far more time then I expected so the cake was kept simple. I made the two 'Big Balls' out of Rice Krispy Treats rolled into balls and then covered in fondant and added the gumpaste figure on top. It was a 4 layer chocolate cake with chocolate filling.
Stack Of Books Teacher Graduation Cake
This is a cake I made for 2 Teachers that just graduated. Top is chocolate cake with chocolate filling covered in chocolate ganche and then fondant. Middle cake is red velvet with creamcheese icing covered in chocolate ganache and then fondant, bottom layer is blueberry lemon cake with covered in white chocolate ganache then fondant. I added the two apples on top and in the end added a 'graduating book worm' to both cakes and removed the second leaf from the larger apple but forgot to take final picture ;) the cake was a hit! Thank you to everyone here on CC for the inspiration!
Easter Cookie Bouquet
After seeing many great cookie bouquets here on CC and online I decided to try some this year instead of making an Easter cake! Had lots of fun and they taste great too! Thank You to everyone here on CC for the inspiration! I added a mini 'How-To' of how I made them on my blog (here: http://cloesspace.blogspot.com/2011/04/easter-cookie-bouquet-and-how-to.html ).
Made more cupcake ornaments for Christmas!! These ones are eggnog spiced cupcakes with a vanilla buttercream filling and an apricot glaze and then decoreated with fondant. Instead of adding icing under the fondant I just brushed the tops with some diluted apricot jam! worked great!!
Chocolate Kahlua Truffles Dipped In Chocolate
Used some chocolate cake, vanilla buttercream and kahlua to make these. chilled until set and then dipped in melted chocolate ! I did find them a bit too moiste even after adding a bunch of cocoa to dry so the next round went into the oven for 20 min before dipping in chocolate! Supper yummy!
Americangirl Doll Painting T-Shirts
My first paid cake order! Request was for a cake that had an AmerianGirl Doll on it (doll was to have shoulder length hair, blue eyes and wear a blue T-shirt).... since the birthday girl and her friends were going to paint t-shirts at the party I combined the two 'themes' and got this! Various t-shirts and paint splatters around the cake...A four layer 10" and an 8" chocolate cake with oreo filling. Covered in fondant, fondant t-shirts, royal icing paint and gumpaste doll.
These are some chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream - topped with chocolate webs and spiders. Made for a play date/party my daughter attended over Halloween this year.
Super Fast Cricut Birthday Cake
I wanted to make a birthday cake for a friend but lost track of time and had to make it the night before with only about an hour to decorate. I had planned on using my cricut so made some really basic cuts and added. Lemon cake with vanilla filling.
This was my first attempt at making cupcake ornaments! Over all it was much easier and faster then I expected. I used the mini ball pan from Wilton to make the tops. Chocolate cupcakes and tops with chocolate filling. Covered in fondant. Thanks to everyone here on CC for the inspiration! The second picture shows one of the cupcakes packed individually in a red velvet box - I plan on making more and packing like this to give out at Christmas!
Groom's Tuxedo Cake
This is a marble cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate icing. Inspired by several seen here and online. Made the chocolate fondant for the tux and used premade for the shirt and vest. Picture was taken while the collar was still drying ;)
Fall Thanksgiving Cake
This is a 4 layer chocolate cake with a coffee infused pastry cream filling (supper yummy). A ganache frosting is under the ivory fondant. All the leaves and acorns are made of fondant.
Bridal Shower Cake
This is a 3 tier chocolate cake with whipped chocolate ganache filling, and buttercream icing. Hand made fondant flowers (about 200 small ones, 4 large and 10 medium with buds) and a figure of bride were added to decorate the cake. This was my first tiered cake - not something I'll probably do again. Found it too difficult to transport and to assemble in a way that I was confident it wouldn't topple over. Ended up putting it on an MDF board, and putting a large dowel up the middle to support it - so it worked out in the end but I had to hold it in my lap to transport - very nerve racking...
White sheet cake with oreo filling, yellow airbrushed buttercream and hand cut fondant for Dora's face.
A lady at work was retiring and I decided to make her a cake. Since we work for the 'telephone' company I made a little retro style phone and added to the top. Also added a white fondant flower to the front. Chocolate cake with whipped chocolate ganache filling, and white buttercream icing (smoothed out with paper towel). She loved it!
Lion Tiger Cupcakes
I wanted to practice using buttercream and decided to decorate some chocolate cupcakes. Turned out okay for a first attempt ;)
Chocolate Wrapped Cake
This was another idea I got from CC. I found a video online that explained how to make it and I had to give it a try! Made it for a friend's birthday. Maple pecan cake with maple buttercream icing. Wrapped in white, dark and milk chocolate. Pecan's and chocolate dipped manderines on top.
Halloween Mummy Cake Pops
I had seen something like this online and couldn't resist trying it! Made them and brought into work for everyone to enjoy at Halloween. Made out of chocolate cake, dipped in white chocolate.
My Frist Carved Cake! - Unicorn
This is my very first carved Cake! A friend requested that I make her a 'pretty unicorn' cake for her birthday. This is what I came up with. Carrot pecan cake with cream cheese icing, covered in marshmellow fondant (recipe I found here on CC). Added some shimmer dust to add some sparkle and some diluted food paste for the ears and lips. This was hand carved/shaped and was inspired by the many beautiful unicorns that others have made and uploaded here on CC! Thanks everyone!
I set up a halloween party/playdate for my daughter and wanted to make a special cake. I purchased the Wilton pumpkin pan at winners and then made a citrus cake which was covered in fondant. All figures are made of fondant or gumpaste. Thanks for the inspiration! CC rocks!
Baby Girl Dress
This is a picture of cake made to resemble a little girls dress. It was a 'practice cake' for my daughters baptism. Chocolate cake with a berry filling. I used fondant for the dress. Hand carved/shaped the dress.
This is a picture of my first decorated cake! It was inspired by the many amazing cakes here on CC. It was for my daughter's 1st Birthday (last year). The bottom is chocolate with whipped chocolate ganache filling, the top is lemon cake with lemon buttercream filling. I used the paper towel method to smooth out the buttercream and then made a lot of butterflies, lady bugs, snails, bees and flowers out of fondant to decorate the cake. The finishing touch was a flower fairy that I spent a lot of time on just to have her fall off the counter and smash (on the morning of the party!). Luckily I had made a second one for fun, not as detailed, and ended up using her. I had a lot of fun making this and it was all possible with the ideas and help I found here on CC! Thanks everyone! I am now officially addicted to making and decorating my own cakes!
