"tropical" Birthday
Was given an order for a lady's mother's birthday cake. The birthday lady is from Hawaii so her daughter ordered something "tropical" but liked the style of some of my more "chic" cakes. I was a little dumbfounded as to what exactly to do but this is what I came up with, and it turned out okay. The client loved it at least, I know it isn't what you typically think of when you think tropical, but at least it is out of the box! It's a pina colada cake recipe from Cake Mix Doctor. Fondant cake & accents with shimmer dust.

Birthday Cake/first Wilton Class Cake
So I just went my second decorating class for Wilton. It is so much fun! Here's my first cake for the class . . . never did a buttercream cake before, need to work on it but here it is! (guess I'm backwards because I threw myself into fondant first!) Choc cake with choc mousse filling.

Mouse Paint
SO, this cake is based on a childrens book titled, "Mouse Paint", it's about 3 white mice who come across some paint and step & play in it & mix the colors. In the end they clean themselves up in a cat's water bowl. So no, the paint splotches were not a mistake! One layer totred chocolate 6" cake with oreo filling.

Grandma's Birthday Purse
My very first carved cake, had so much fun! Not as scary as I originally thought! A purse cake for my grandma's birthday. Of course inspiration from many cakes here on CC! Spilling out of the purse are some things about my grandma, she loves Barbie, gardening, horses, tomatoes, pearls & taking pictures. White cake with a cream cheese/whpped/cheesecake filling & a strawberry sauce on the side to drizzle on each slice. Everyone screamed when I cut it, but that is my favorite part because I no longer have to look at the imperfections. I made way too much cake, but she wouldn't let me chop up the rest of the left over half to send home with people, she wanted to take it to show her friends lol

Tink Cake
Made this for a two year old's birthday, I know I am crazy! But it was lterally my 4th cake & I wanted a challenge. Tinkerbell is a choc transfer, my very first. It was so much fun! And then, I broke her legs off on accident, but you can hardly tell now. All fondant with fondant & gumpaste accents & shimmer dust. Had a lot of fun, but stressful too! Thanks so much to kiddiekakes, for the inspiration!

Scrap Cake
After making the black & white cake yesterday I had some extra batter & fondant. So I decided to make my frend & her husbad a belated anniversary cake. 2 choc 6 inch rounds, raspberry mousse & choc mousse filling (there are 4 layers). This is also when I learned you can't really frost a cake in a whipped-like frosting & then cover it in fondant :)

Cake Nightmare!
My second cake! I think I would like to learn how to airbrush because . . . fondant is a PAIN to color black! At least for me! I loked up all sorts of tips on here before hand, and ended up making the fondant brown with cocoa pwoder frist. Then added black coloring, which took a while . . . and when it as time to roll it out, it was very dry. So I figured it was from the extra powder & added a little water . . . it looked fine. Rolled it out, lifted it to put on the cake (still lookin' good) and once it's on the cake it cracked! I wanted to cry! AThere were cracks ALL over! After thinking for a minute I ended up painting the cracks with coloring (after patching) and making swirls all over the bottom layer. Anyway, the bottom teir is white with raspberry mousse filling, top is choc with choc mousse. Original inspiration was from a cake I saw on here, but it turned out nothing like it :)

Mexican Cake
This was pretty muh my first cake. . . fondant wise. My work was having a "mexican" themed pot-luck for our boss, who's been out of town a lot because he works in legislation as well. Next time I am def. investing in some plastic gloves when coloring the fondant! I used the mmf recipe & really loved it! It was easy to work with. Bottom layers are choc with the choc moouse recipe for filling, top is white with strawberry. Everyone loved the cake & were more than happy to eat it. I was pretty happy with it & am excited to keep practicing! Thanks to all on this website for inspiraion & tips! Just from people seeing this cake, I already have about seven more cakes lined up! I don't want to charge people yet, they just have to pay for supplies, but I hope to one day get good enough to charge for them. Most of all I love to see people's faces as they enjoy eating the cake!
