Rocks
They look real, don't they? They are made from Mexican Paste and dusted with six various colors of petal dust. I made them for a friend who is using them on a cake next month. They are made over real river rocks and are LOTS of fun to do. I flipped one over in the front so you can see what the underneath looks like. The other picture is the hundreds of fondant blossoms I made as well for this cake. She's planning on stacking the rocks against one another sprinkled with blossoms. I think it will be awesome!! Thanks for looking! :D Edited to say I've just added the final cake picture that me and Cindy worked on. It's really her cake but I doweled, stacked, made the blossoms and rocks for it. I'm posting it with her permission as well as the permission of the bride and groom. I think it turned out great!!

Life Rings
I was asked by Eric and Jamie Border of www.Ecrandal.com to do an online tutorial using one of their cutters, so I chose an easy, fun design using their Life Ring with Inset cutter. This is the finished product of that tutorial. I must say I'm not much of a photographer, but I think they turned out really cute!

Bella's Purse Cake
Requested by my favorite six-year-old, who, when she found out I did her caramel apple cake last year told me "when I turn six I want a blue purse cake with fabulous shoes." Gotta love it! The blue purse is carved and covered in fondant, fabulous shoes are poured chocolate with chocolate pearls, lace and bow (based on Jennifer Dontz's signature design.) Funky tappits, fondant flowers and butterflies complete the look. Thanks for looking!

Megan's Wedding Cake
Done for my friend Megan (the same gal I did the Tiffany Box cake for). We had some technical issues with this cake but in the end it all came together (Praise be to God!) I had a lot of compliments on it and Megan was thrilled. We also had a "make lemonade out of lemons" moment -- we ran out of roses for the topper so we put satin ribbon and pearls around its base instead and I think that really made it work. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade baby! :D The roses are all done from gumpaste. Thanks for looking!

Tiffany Box Cake
Made for my friend Megan's wedding shower. She likes the Tiffany blue color and the box cake style. Many cakes here on CC inspired the open, offset lid style. This cake gave me the opportunity to use some of the skills from Sugarshack's Boxes and Bows DVD and the "tissue" is made from Jennifer Dontz's pearl clay. Thanks for looking!

Gelatin Butterflies
I made this cake for a friend's mom for her birthday using a cool new technique to make gelatin butterflies. Outside the class I haven't done these before. I'm very pleased with the way they turned out. This is actually the back of the cake, but I think it gives a better view. The butterflies are in a "swooping" pattern over the entire cake. I also used some of JenniferMI's quilting techniques on the sides as well as her white chocolate fondant -- awesome!! Thanks Jen!!

Edie's Shoe Cake
Made for Edie's 40th birthday at the request of her hubby Ron. The cake is formed over a plastic shoe template made from the stiletto heels my boss happened to be wearing that day. The shoe is 22 inches long and 13 inches tall. The clutch purse is a dummy made from fondant and gumpaste formed over a cereal box template. Lettering done in tappits. Transporting was a nightmare but we delivered it without incident.

Gilda's Club 10Th Anniversary Cake
This was a special commission for Gilda's Club of Metro Detroit for their 10th anniversary celebration. I tried to incorporate elements of Gilda (Radner) from her dramatic uniqueness to her love of the colors red, black and white. Overall the cake turned out awesome and was a blast to make! The fans and hibiscus flowers were made of Gumpaste and the bud vases on either side were real flowers.

Happy Turkey Day
This commission was originally for a little boy's birthday then changed to a Thanksgiving cake where his birthday would be celebrated. The lad wanted a turkey and Grandma wanted pumpkins. In this photo I tried to get a shot of both the top and sides -- the sides have pumpkins and vines. Happy turkey day!!
