Bamboo Cake With Children's Artwork
I wanted to make my husband a special cake and let our 2 1/2-year-old son help - this is the result. I started out with a very, very vague direction and it evolved as I worked. I'm particularly pleased with the end result and love how it's elegant yet still nicely features our son's creative contribution. It really turned out better than I had hoped! Inside: vanilla cake, IMBC, filling is raspberry IMBC TFL!!!

Lions Club
A new president is taking over at our Lions Club so for the festivities I thought it might be nice to have an official cake. I seriously underestimated how difficult it would be to make this logo but am happy with the result. Inside it's a vanilla cake with red currant filling, IMBC and of course fondant on the outside.

Iphone
My son and his iPhone are inseparable so for his 15th b-day, that's what he got! Inside: chocolate cake and coconut filling, IMBC and fondant. Unfortunately people thought it was too sweet, although fondant and frosting are sweet by design. I reduced the sugar in the chocolate cake recipe but the coconut (for me the best part) was also sweet. Oh well! May have to try a different combo next time. At least they loved the design! TFL!

Tennis Ball
Another tennis ball - same design as last time since I didn't have much time for the details. The birthday boy (a 30-year-old tennis player) loved it and froze it so he could serve it to his friends on the weekend. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it survives the freezing! Inside: vanilla cake, red currant filling and IMBC TFL!

Rose
Another birthday cake for my MIL. I saw the tutorial on here by Angelica Alvarez and thought I'd give it a try, with a few slight alterations. It took some time but I'm really pleased with the result and can't wait to take it over! Inside is an 8" chocolate cake with coconut filling and IMBC. TFL! :-)

Pot Of Orchids
After quite a bit of fun and frustration, I now present the orchid cake I made for one of my dearest friends. I was surprised that the leaves were the hardest part! As always I'll be doing things slightly differently next time but was really pleased with my first attempt at something like this! Flowers are fun once you get the hang of it! Vanilla cake (started with 9" and then carved), red currant filling, IMBC, fondant and Oreos (for dirt). TFL!

World Cup 2010
A friend's son's birthday just happens to fall on the same day as the final round of the World Cup. I asked him who he thought was going to win and by how much and put those on the cake. His prediction: Spain 2:1 against the Netherlands. We'll see! Vanilla cake with strawberry IMBC filling and BC under fondant.

Roses
This cake became a victim of heat and apparent leaks in my icing dam. It looked OK when I went to bed but when I got up there were bubbles all over and what appeared to be open wounds where the strawberry filling was slowly eating away at the fondant and oozing out. The only reason I didn't put it under disasters is because in the picture it doesn't necessarily look like a disaster. The right angle and conveniently-placed leaves are hiding the worst of it. Just when you think you know what you're doing...

New York Or Bust!
A friend will be celebrating her 50th and our choir wanted to give her some spending money for her upcoming trip to New York, we just needed a fun way to present it! I made a boarding pass envelope to keep the money from coming in direct contact with the cake. 9x13 vanilla cake with strawberry filling, IMBC and fondant. TFL!

Confirmation Cake
I think the footprints are my favorite part of this cake! The boy's mother wanted stones, possibly the idea of no stumbling stones on the path to God. So I made a path and lots of stones! The writing needs a little work but otherwise I think it turned out great. 9" vanilla cake with mandarin orange filling, IMBC and fondant. TFL!

House Under Construction
Acquaintances of mine asked me if I would be willing to help them out with a present for an architect. This is what I came up with. It was a challenge on many levels and next time I'd do a few things differently but there are a lot of things about it that I really like, too. Vanilla cake with lemon curd, IMBC and fondant.

Laptop
A laptop for a good friend who loves working on his. Turned out a little different than I had envisioned but he was thrilled. People especially loved the fact that the only keys with letters spelled out his name, Mario. :-) Both halves are vanilla cake - the bottom has mandarin orange filling and the top lemon curd. IMBC and fondant. TFL!
