Chocolate Sculpture
3-Tier chocolate cake with fudge frosting for my mom's birthday. (I only had a few hours and ran out of batter for the top layer, so half of it is styrofoam -- hence the taller top layer.) Flower topper was made by dipping a washed balloon in couverture. Butterflies were piped onto waxed paper in pieces and then assembled with more couverture. Flowers are just gumpaste from the Wilton cutter with edible pearl centers and brushed with food coloring. This was my first attempt at chocolate sculpture, and I had a lot of fun.

Firefighter Hat
I made this hat for my son's 4th birthday at the fire station. The kids and the fire fighters loved it! It is two 8-inch chocolate layers and a 8-inch rounded layer baked in a mixing bowl with fudge filling and BC frosting. The brim is cardboard. The shield and yellow stripes on front are MMF, and I used edible markers to write the words. The "4" is a candle.

Mickey Mouse Cake
A Mickey Mouse cake for my son's third birthday (the family party). The bottom is an 8-inch chocolate cake with fudge filling and IMBC. The top is a half ball pan with chocolate fudge frosting and black sugar sprinkes. The ears are cardboard. The stars are MMF (the wired ones have lustre dust). I had fun with this one, although the IMBC was a bit soft when I was piping the border. Thanks for looking!

Anniversary Ice Cream Cake
I made this for our second anniversary. We just had a quiet dinner at home, and my husband likes ice cream cakes. It's a chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream frosted in buttercream. I had never made one before, and I learned a couple things about ice cream cakes. Next time I would put the ice cream on top so any that melts would melt into the cake. Also, the expensive ice creams melt a lot faster than the cheap ones. :-)

Fire Truck Birthday
These were fun cookies to do for a birthday party. I didn't like the only firetruck cookie cutter I could find, so I bought the semi truck and used pliers to reshape it into a fire truck. (Before and after are shown in the corner). The cookies were for the kids and the giant cookie was for the parents. This was my first attempt at a giant cookie cake, and thanks to the tips I received on CC, I found out they are really easy to do!

First Day Of Preschool
I made this for my son's first day of preschool. It was rushed, so it wasn't as good as I would have liked, but it was fun to experiment. White cake, but colored 4 different colors before baking, so it is very colorful inside. This was my first attempt at carving a cake and my first experience with IMBC. It went pretty well, although I picked too large of a tip for writing on the top. The crayons are MMF. Thanks for looking!

Bride And Groom
Bride and Groom cakes for SIL's bridal shower. I got the idea from the various bride and groom cakes here on CC. The bride cake is French Vanilla with strawberry filling and BC icing. (First attempt at cornelli lace, at 1:00 am no less.) :-) The groom cake is chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and fudge frosting. The pearls, bow, and tux collar are MMF. The roses are BC with bag striping. Thanks for looking! (Forgot to take my camera to the party, so all I have is the pic from the kitchen.)

Construction Cake
I made this for a friend's little boy who was turning two. The dirt pile is a smash cupcake with crumbled chocolate graham crackers. The black stripes, road, cones, and sign are MMF. I was going to have a sand pit (crushed graham crackers ) with "rocks" (choc covered cookie bites), but then I found out the cookies were processed in a facility that does nuts, and the boy's family is allergic to peanuts. He really liked it anyway. (The stripes don't look even in this pic, but they really were -- honest!) :-)

Wedding Cake
This was my first wedding cake. French vanilla cake with strawberry filling. All BC except for fondant roses. (Similar to the taste test cake in my album.) I was glad to have practiced once because I learned that you have to make the dam icing REALLY stiff when using a filling. (It was squishing out a bit on my practice cake.) I'm glad I did because the cake table was in front of the window and the sun heated it for more than two hours before they cut the cake. Thankfully the icing didn't melt and slide off

Wedding Cake
I used this cake to let a bride-to-be taste test. The top is French Vanilla cake filled with strawberry filling. It has buttercream icing and fondant roses. The bottom is the White Almond Sour Cream cake with MMF and fondant roses. (She preferred the french vanilla.) These are my first fondant roses. I didn't get them rolled quite thin enough, but she loved the cake, so I will have another chance to work on those roses. :-) The designs are adaptations from Wilton cakes.

Strawberry Cake
I made this in a pinch one day when I didn't have time to get very creative decorating a cake. I made a heart-shaped strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream frosting. I cut up some fresh strawberries and arranged them around the cake. The design might also work for Valentine's Day. I did, however, learn a little about strawberries and how they like to bleed. By the time we were ready for dessert, there were red streaks running down the side. I kept dabbing at it with my napkin throughout dinner.

Present Cake
I made this cake for a friend's daughter. (The waxed paper under the bow was just to protect the fabric bow from any staining before the party.) She wanted the cake to match her daughter's party dress, which was brown with pink and yellow polka dots. It was a white cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and fondant ribbon and polka dots.

First Birthday
I used the theme from my son's first birthday decorations to decorate this chocolate cake. I wrapped the cake board with the wrapping paper we used on his presents. I was still pretty new at decorating and wasn't sure how to get a while surface for the design, so I just smeared on some white buttercream on top of the chocolate. Thankfully it worked ok.
