Kim And Ryan 2011
This 7-tier cake consists of four 4" round and three 6" square tiers. The round tiers are fondant airbrushed with super red, then red sheen, then super pearl. The reds are heavier at the bottom of each tier, fading to very light at the shoulder and top. The super pearl is heaviest on the top and shoulder of each tier, fading to very light at the center. The square tiers are BC with RI stencil. All cakes are torted. Flavors are: French vanilla with dark chocolate ganache filling in the center and fresh strawberry filling in the upper and lower tortes; dark fudge cake with white chocolate ganache filling in the center and fresh raspberry filling in the upper and lower tortes; dark fudge cake with dark chocolate ganache in the center and fresh raspberry filling in the tortes. Swarovski crystal banding and monogram, jeweled brooch and adornments and black ostrich feathers complete the look. Cake design is a collaboration between the bride and cake decorator.
Pere Marquette 1225 Train Cake
This was done for the recent ICES Cake Competition held in Detroit, MI., and took 1st place in the "Novelty Cake" division. The train is 2' long; the entire cake is 4'. The waterfall is pulled sugar.
Garden Club Luncheon
Very dense cake that didn't turn out the way I wanted, but it looked nice. Chocolate fondant. All decorations are handmade GP.
Pere Marquette 1225
Main cake for the Owosso Train Festival. Engine is 2' long. Everything you see is edible except the light.
6" cake, painstakingly done by extruding very fine white lines onto the blue fondant--took over four hours just for the fondant work.
Fondant, with top squared off with pearl dust to depict a dance floor. Gumpaste feathers are mixed with actual feathers. Vintage Wilton mold used for "feather fan" emblems.
This is a photo of the cake before fresh flowers were added. The ribbon and pearls are made from chocolate clay with a little fondant mixed in.
Fondant accents; whole wheat spaghetti for cattails. (Notice the broken golf club!)
Annerose Is 10
Horse modeled after one done by someone here on CC--thank you! Fondant accents on cake. Letters on board are gumpaste.
This was for a group of pastors and civic leaders who meet once a week to try to impact our city in positive ways. Bible verses on the right--EI frosting sheet. Scene on the left is a replica of a large flower planting that is a focal point of the downtown area.
Eric And Kris
Chocolate wedding cake. Gift tag is GP replica of wedding invitation. Bows and flowers are fondant.
Three layer carrot cake--seriously, what else could it be! Gumpaste handle, coconut grass, molded chocolate bunnies and eggs.
This was a BIG cake--two full sheet cakes. As a point of reference, the pliers, wrench and screwdriver are life-size. The little plaque on the easel reads: "everything you see is made of edible materials, including this note". All of my gift cakes are also experimental in some way and this one definitely had some issues. I at least was able to fix the rumpled "thank you" in the picture frame before delivering. It took two men to carry it, and it had to go up a flight of stairs!
