Wine Birthday Cake
Wine bottle cake for a good friend who turned 50. It was a really fun cake to do. I loosely followed the instructions in the Confetti Cakes book. Cake itself was walnut coffee cake filled with an espresso buttercream, cake is covered in fondant. The straw is gum paste cut with a pizza wheel, the label is gum paste which is hand painted.

Kransekake Wedding Cake.
This cake was done as a gift to my son's teacher who is Danish. She wanted a little taste of home for her wedding. Kransekake is a traditional cake for big celebrations such as weddings, christenings and holidays in Scandinavia. The cake is made from concentric rings of baked home made marzipan that are stacked to form a tower. It is traditional to decorate with flags. I jazzed it up a bit with a wedding topper. She was so pleased to receive the cake.

Littlest Pet Shop Cake
This was a fun cake to do. The head is carved from a wondermold cake with a cupcake for the nose. The legs are cupcakes threaded end to end on skewers and then carved. The stand is made from plumbing parts which I picked up at the hardware store. All covered in fondant. The birthday girl was thrilled with it.

Jack's Digger Cake
This is probably one of the hardest cakes I have ever made. The digger scoop parts are gumpaste which were dried in advance, the tricky part was to get everything to stick together. The cake itself is an egg and dairy free cake which made it a bit too crumbly for this purpose, but with a digger crazy birthday boy with bad allergies what is a cake lady to do?

Aloha Disaster!
My first cake disaster which has now taught me to take a photo of the cake before you move it. I carried the cake to the table I had set up for photography. As I went to set it down the top tier just tipped off, did a back flip and crashed onto the table. My husband and I were so shocked there was just silence for a while. We then sprang into action picking up the cake and a lot of broken flowers. Thankfully I was able to re-arrange flowers and I had a few spare to re-do the topper. You can still see a few dents in the fondant, but all things considered I think the cake recovered well. Cakes were Pina Colada cake baked in petal pans, iced in coconut IMBC and covered in Fondant. Flowers are all gumpaste.

Indiana Jones' Fedora.
This was a really fun project. The brim of the cake is chocolate fondant mixed with tylose so it would dry hard, I shaped it over paper towels while drying to shape the brim. The body of the cake is a 10" cake carved to shape and covered in chocolate fondant. I found an Indy font and made the letters using color-flo.

Teddy Cake
This cake is a replica of my daughter's teddy bear which she has dragged around with her since she was a baby. The likeness was so close that my daughter did not ask to eat the head which she would normally do. The cake is inspired by a cake by the Little Bakehouse. One Wondermold for body, one sportspan for head, arms and legs are cupcakes on skewers. Strawberry cake with cream cheese icing.

Beef Cake
Steak cake for a meat loving friend's 40th birthday. When the cake was brought out by the servers in the restaurant he was completely convinced it was a real steak. Could not understand why he was getting a raw steak for dessert. Thanks to all who have posted their steak cakes which I used for inspiration.

Shark And Mermaid Cake
3 tier Shark and Mermaid cake for my daughter's 6th birthday. All the sea shells are molded white chocolate dusted with lustre dusts. The figures are hand molded in gumpaste/fondant mix. Fun cake to do but a nightmare to serve. We almost had a riot on our hands as all the kids wanted a figure and there were not enough to go around. Top tier is RCT, middle tier is banana cake with caramel filling, bottom tier is chocolate with morello cherry buttercream filling.
