Snare Drum Cake
OK, I just had to try one of these since my son plays the drums, so we did this one for his teacher. It is actually just a 4" round, one layer torted DH French Vanilla flavored cake; all BC with MMF accents, and spaghetti for the rods on the side of the drum. I was upset that the candy melts holding the drumsticks on show up so much; oh well. Hope he likes it!

Wedding Cake
Small wedding cake for a friend. I did her sister's cake in December, and she pretty much wanted the same cake, with slight modifications. 10" white bottom, 8" choc middle, and 6' carrot on top. All IMBC with dragee "bubbles." Flowers added by the bride's sisters. Not 2 minutes after I took this picture, MOB came to me and asked if I had any extra beads, as the 3 yr old nephew of the bride was caught just sticking his fingers in the front. He was caught in time, so minimal damage, and we were able to fix it (whew!) Also, first time using SPS, and I will NEVER go back to dowels!

John Deer Birthday Cake
Birthday cake for a friend who works for John Deere. Not totally happy with the bow; as I was putting it on the cake, I realized that I should have made the loops more narrow, oh well. Swiss Chocolate cake with cherry filling. All BC with fondant/gumpaste accents. Used my Cricut to cut the letters.

Graduation Cake
Graduation cake for two friends. The only instructions were "leopard and zebra print in purples and/or greens. One of the graduates used to be on the drill team and had seen a similar cake layout in my photos, so that is where the structural idea came from. All DH white cake with BC. Fondant and gumpaste accents. First time doing leopard print, but it was easier than I thought!

Teacher Appreciation Cake
Cake made for the teachers at my son's school for teacher appreciation week. I was really upset with the bottom tier. Even after careful cutting, my dowels were not long enough, and the top tiers settled into it a little too far. (grrr!) Oh well, all in all it's not too bad, I 'm sure the teachers will like it, and I needed the practice. All BC with fondant and 50/50 accents. TFL

"toad Stool"
Mushroom cake made using the Wilton giant cupcake pan. Made for my son's b-day. We call them toad stools, and it is a clue to his actual present. Devil's food cake top, yellow cake bottom. All MMF using Kraft "chocolate swirl" marshmallows (yum!); they gave me the color I wanted. I also tried to dust it with cocoa powder and orange lustre dust for more effect, but it doesn't really show up. First time using IMBC under the fondant, I LOVE it because I could stick it in the fridge for just a few mins and then got much crisper corners when covering the base. BTW, I left the torn edges on the top on purpose to give a "more natural" look, but looking at the picture, I didn't really get the effect I wanted. Oh well.

Wedding Cake
My second actual wedding cake, done for a good friend who used to babysit for us. These can be the most fun to do, when it seems more personal! Day after Christmas, it had been snowing for three days, and still is! Fortunately, the venue is only about 1 mile from my house (whew!) Carrot cake top tier (6"), chocolate middle (8"), white cake bottom (10"); all decorated with IMBC, and cream cheese filling. Flowers were placed by florist.

Sweet Sixteen
My DD and her friend had a joint sweet 16. They designed the cake together. Had SO MANY problems as the cake was too moist. This is not the original bottom tier! Then, when I woke up the next morning after frosting the top tier, the frosting was sliding down. I didn't have time to fix it, so just hid it with accents. Most importantly, the girls loved it, and so did all their friends! All BC with fondant accents.

Birthday Present
I decided to do one cake a month just for practice and to try new things. This month, I made the cake for a good friend's b-day. First time trying IMBC (yum!) and first time using my new pasta machine to roll the fondant! IMBC with fondant and 50/50 accents. Milk chocolate cake with cherry filling. The bow was a little bigger than I wanted, but I think it turned out OK anyway.

Birthday Present Cake
I "threw" this one together for a friend's birthday; only my second bow. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out, but by the time we cut the cake, the bow was "deflating" from the moisture in the frosting. Neapolitan cake with chocolate BC, and strawberry BC filling. MMF accents/bow.

Red, Pink And White
This one was thrown together in an afternoon, and I'm afraid it shows. It was for a valentine's party at church, and I decided at the last minute that a sheet cake just wouldn't do. I didn't realize until I put the cake together (on site since I was too chicken to transport it stacked) that the middle tier seems to be leaning a little, but that is just because I didn't shape up the sides very well in my haste. All BC with MMF bow painted with lustre dust. The bow was made for my original idea, and when I put it on this cake, it was a little too big. Oh well, everyone enjoyed it anyway!

Valentine Cake
Made very quickly for a party that night. She said to bring a dessert, so what else would I bring? lol White cake with BC frosting MMF accents. Used strawberry MM (YUM!) First time using lustre dust; lots of fun. Used cake by pish for inspiration, but made lots of changes for Valentines, and in my haste, didn't do hers justice, so I'm a little embarassed to mention hers. Everyone enjoyed it, though.
