Dad's Favorite Things
Whew! This was a labor of love! LOTS of work and there's still more I wish I could've done to it--but I ran out of time! Overall I'm really happy with it. Dad's loves are antique cars, stamp collecting, baseball, bowling, and his church. My personal favorite parts are the back of the car and the stamp album...

Hand-Painted Beach Cake
This was for my MIL's 88th birthday. My SIL is a very talented artist, so we collaborated on her mom's cake. First we bought the cute little chairs at a dollhouse store, then she used the yellow color to inspire a beachy-sailboat design and she painted the whole thing. Then I finished it up with some graham-cracker sand, and chocolate and fondant accents, and a tiny gumpaste NY Times crossword puzzle which is placed on one of the chairs. We had so much fun plus I THINK I've got my SIL hooked on cake-painting!

Paisley Beach Bake
This was the first time I got to use my paisley pans--I love them! I got inspiration for this cake from a photo in a recent Ices publication--so I started with making the flip flops and the hibiscus-type flowers/leaves and then just kept going with graham cracker sand the white chocolate shells until I liked it...

Mad Hatter Cake
My original plan was to cover this cake in fondant--but it's a tall, strange shape and my fondant wasn't cooperating...so after 3 attempts--I gave up and used buttercream and then just smoothed my little heart out...I'm pleased with how Plan B worked. The brim is fondant with a LOT of tylose added...
