Dog Cake
I made this cake for my niece's birthday. Chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream frosting. I used someone else's picture as a guide for how to shape the cake...I think I used a 6 inch circle, and a 10 inch circle for the head and body, and then used 2 loaf pans to have extra cake to shape the ears and feet.

Lion Cake
I made this cake for a 4th birthday party, and it was a huge hit! I used a 10 inch round cake pan for the face, and then baked about 3/4 C batter in a glass bowl for the nose. The ears and mane are cupcakes (I just made 2 smaller cupcakes for the ears). I used a real BUTTERcream frosting, since I'm not a fan of partially hydrogenated's, and it crusted great! (I did add about 1/4 C of meringue powder). I used star tip #16 for the face, and then I used tip #352 to make the hair/mane. I wiped the inside of the pastry bag with 2 wipes of chocolate frosting, and then filled the bag with orange frosting to get the mixed-color look.

Polka Dot Fun For 1St Birthday
I did this cake for a friend's daughter's 1st birthday...this is the 1st 2 tier cake I've made...did buttercream icing and fondant for the dots. Had a bit of trouble with the fondant coloring bleeding onto the cake--I don't know if this is usually a probelem when it's hot and humid?? Maybe I need a new recipe? Had anyone else had this problem? Anyways, it was a fun experiment...it's only my 2nd cake I've made for someone outside of family, and my first time with fondant, so I was happy with the results.
