I was trying to figure out how to transport these "gift" cuppies for my son's MOPS teachers. I cut out the bottom of some paper cups, then put an instruction label that said "To enjoy your yummy treat, push cupcake up through the bottom of the cup." I wrapped them in cello wrap with a ribbon. They turned out cute.
My MIL used to make this cake for my husband every year. She passed the pan down to me, so I made him one for his birthday. :o) I think we'll stick to a regular cake next year. As he says, "The cake to icing ratio just isn't right." We like our icing around here.

NFSC with Antonia's icing. These were for my son's kindergarten teachers.
Buttercream.
Buttercream icing, vines and leaves. Gumpaste pea pods and booties. My favorite part of this cake was the pea pods. The center pea in each pod is a little heart.
Simple cuppies for my son's friend's birthday. Stars are violet candy melts.
NFSC with Antonia's icing. The rainbows are 1/2 circles, the pot of gold is a gumpaste flower cutter and the cloud is a holly leaf cutter.
Chocolate MMF made from chocolate marshmallows (yum) with pink royal icing cornelli lace. My first try with cornelli lace. I need a smaller tip, maybe a 0. It was for my sister-in law's birthday, which is on Valentine's Day.

These were more difficult than I thought they'd be. Props to those who make them well. I need more practice! NFSC with Toba's Glace. Candle are made out of rainbow jimmies.
Inspired by newsums fabulous R2D2 cake. There were lots of flaws here, but I felt satisfied that I did a decent enough job. It was for my 6 year old's birthday and he LOVED it. The "arms" and "feet" are styrofoam covered in fondant. Oh, and I now LOVE Vodka and luster dust - this was the first time I tried it. Can't wait to make another shimmery something!
NFSC and Toba's Glace
Mini cupcakes in lemon with blackberry buttercream, royal icing flower, and pumpkin chocolate chip with spiced cream cheese icing. Amazingly tasty!!!
Lots of inspiration from other cakes on CC. Iced in buttercream with fondant accents. Popcorn is mini marshmallows, cut, and sprayed with a bit of yellow. This is my first cake that turned out almost exactly like I wanted it to! AND it was super yummy!!!
I hadn't wanted to take this class because I didn't like the look of the sample final cakes they had on display. The little color flow birds...I just didn't like them. Well, I decided to change my cake up just a little and even though I didn't think I'd like the class, I ended up LOVING this final cake.
An asthma inhaler for a party my husband was throwing for his employees. It was the 1 year "birthday" of the drug. Covered in red buttercream, fondant accents. I think I may be the first person ever to add an inhaler to the CC gallery! :o)
Feliz Cinco De Mayo! These are NFSC with Toba's Glace. The tops of the hat are large gumdrops. I got the idea from Familyfun.com.
The "at home" cake for my son's actual birthday...made a Curious George cake for his party which was 2 days later. This was just a quicky-cake, to match the Curious George tableware.
Buttercream, except for ladybugs (my son requested ladybugs on his cake), bananas and yellow hat, which are all fondant. The George figure is store-bought. I tried to make a George out of fondant, but failed miserably. I also attempted palm trees, which would have been great if I had made them earlier. I didn't give them enough time to dry. It was the first time I started a cake without any idea of where it was going to go. I guess I couldn't be disappointed if I had no expectations! I liked this one.
My buttercream was WAY too soft for roses, (left over from another cake) but I did it anyway. I was just trying to get it done quickly to take to an Easter dinner. I got a lot of rose practice!

I had been pleased with the way this turned out. I loved the teacup and saucer. It was fondant and gumpaste, formed inside a teacup and saucer that I had dusted with ps. THEN, I put in the flowers. I was a dummy and used a fondant base inside the teacup to hold the flowers in place. It made the delicate cup too heavy and it leaned to the side of the cup base. Before I got it to my MOPS tea, the cup had broken. :o( Next time, RKT!!! Live and learn. It was still beautiful and one of my favorites.
This was just for our family celebration of my son's birthday. I had made cupcakes for his party. I was just going for a fun look. It's a 6 inch, 4 inch, 2 inch cake, covered in buttercream. Figurines are from Toys R Us.
