I made all the decorations except for the booties and the cardboard piece with my grandson's name on it. The cake had 4 layers and 3 fillings, vanilla and butter flavour with just a hint of almond. We did not cut the cake into wedges as it was over 6" tall, it was cut into slices and then cut into rectangle pieces to sit neatly on little plates.
First Wedding Cake
Made with love for my son and his bride. Buttercream cake baked from scratch and decorated with silk flowers (no scolding!!). Tiers were all around 6" tall because I like taller tiers. :)
Christmas Comes But Once A Year
I love making gingerbread house cakes at Christmas time. This one was my first attempt following a recipe out of one of my Christmas baking books. No template was supplied so I had to take pencil, ruler and paper to create my own template as best I could.
First Christening Cake
Not the best in the world but we all have to start somewhere! :) This was for our grandbaby, Dominic. I doubled a simple 'white cake' recipe. The cake had 6 layers filled with vanilla buttercream. For the outside, I did a crusting buttercream using high ratio shortening, pure icing sugar, meringue powder (pavlova magic here in Aus) only, no butter, clear butter flavouring and a few tablespoons of full cream milk. It was so nice and 'crusty' that I could lift the cake gently on the sides without leaving finger marks. The booties I ordered online but I made the rest myself.
