AHi all, I have someone who wants a wedding cake in April, but its not a traditional wedding cake, as they are big outdoors people. I'm not sure how these pine trees are made? I think they are piped, but wanted to,double check.
Also, the bride wants to get cake for 1/2 of the guests and cupcakes for the rest but my price, $1.50 each, was too Hugh, so she said she'll just grab some "grocery store cupcakes." I told the mother I am not sure I am OK with that because the guests might assume I made those disgusting cupcakes! (I didn't say disgusting, but I told her I feared those cupcakes might hurt my business if anyone thought they were mine,) I'm not saying I'm the best cake decorator in the world, but I use all natural ingredients, butter not shortening, my SMBC is from here and awesome, and my tastes are great! I don't want to be with Orice Chopper cupcakes.
Suggestions? I don't have to take this cake,I'm already working full time, but I liked the idea. Best, Nancy
I'd probably stick a pretzel rod into the cake and pipe buttercream in several colors.
But my bigger worry would be those store cupcakes. The answer to that one is NO WAY--EVER.
I tell my clients that it's all my cake or it's none of my cake. Take it, or leave it. If I arrive and find cake[s] from another source, I walk with my cake and donate it to the nearest police or fire station. No refund, either. If I find out after the event that other cake was served, I inform the client and block future emails. No one is going to bite into a nasty piece of cake and entertain the thought that I made it, if I can help it.
I was thinking I saw pretzels also for the stem of the tree. You could pipe with the small leaf tips to make the tree branches. I am sure others here will probably know what piping tip to use if I am wrong about the leaf tip.
AAh, Royal Icing, thank you!
And that's what I was thinking about the store bought cupcakes too. It's not good for business.
Thanks much, Nancy

Definitely not good for business, but you can't control that. They could whip the cupcakes out as soon as you leave and you'll never know the difference. If you know they're planning on doing it I'd pass, but most of the time you really can't control whether people bring other cakes in or not.
@remnant3333 I saw the technique using the small leaf tip and moving the hand just so slightly up and down to create the leaves on the tree branches.
