I just made my first cake pops, I wasn't expecting them to be perfect, but at least, since they are so easy to make (that's what I thought), I was expecting them to turn out better than this.

Yes, they turned out a total disaster.

They couldn't stay attached to the stick for some reason and felt off. I did place the sticks in the candy melts mixture before sticking them into cake balls, and yes, I did put them in the fridge so that they harden. what possibly could've gone wrong? I have to point out that my cake balls came up very soft when I added the butter cream (maybe because I added to much) but i'm not sure if that has something to do as I put them in the fridge as many times as possible. Any comments/suggestions? why did this happen to me? I waste a lot of my time here not fun at all :(

Yes adding too much BC can definitely make the cake balls fall off the sticks or the sticks slide right through. There should only be enough BC to form cake balls.

That's what I thought (should've thought it before actually lol). Thanks a lot bakernoob :)

I totally recommend you buy a cake pop recipe manual from "Bakerella".  She has so many useful tips /hints/ techniques on how to make them.  However, her ratio of frosting to crumb is ridiciously too much - so go by feel and just add enough to hold together.

Freeze cake pops - dip stick in chocolate, then straight into frozen cake pop.  Then let set 20-30 mins in fridge (not freezer), then dip entire pop in chocolate/candy.

You need to learn the 'tap tap' method to get the chocolate/candy smooth.

Getting the chocolate/candy at the right melt temperate is also paramount - this takes practice and trial & error

Sorry about your cake pop disaster. I weigh mine and each ball weighs 22-25g each. Might be worth doing this as well next time? And I echo what the others have said- less buttercream.

I read this too when I was having problems- http://www.ninerbakes.com/2013/01/28/cake-pops-101-troubleshooting-guide/

HTH :)
