AIve asked a lot of questions lately, but this one is the real stumper of the week for me. I would like to make pretty much exactly the Betty in[IMG][/IMG] this picture, but how do you think they made it look so clean and perfect? Printed on sugar paper? Cut out fondant? It's going on the side of a cake. I'd prefer not to have to print it on edible image paper (sometimes colored BC will bleed through and I like to be able to say I made it myself), so if anyone knows how else I can achieve this, you'll really save my behind. Thanks everyone.
AAnd if it's fondant, any tips or tricks would be extremely helpful. For some reason this is scaring me more than making 3D figures :P
I would use the Bas Relief technique, you might find something on this on you tube, or goggle it, to see what you can find, basically you start from the back and build the image up, in layers. Not hard, Nick Lodge had a chapter on this in one of his older books, The Art of **********, Pastillage and Sugar Moulding. I don't know if it is available any more, but I am sure there must be other books out there with instructions in the technique.
Oh wow, this is one of the first cakes I ever did. I don't have a picture of her on this computer, but it was the first time I worked with fondant. I had more issues covering a heart shaped cake than making betty.
I just worked on her on a flat board and transferred her on later. Layer by layer.
I remember me and my husband giggling as we tried to get the perfect legs and breasts...

........and I was trying sooo hard not to say that I haven't had a flat edible figure since college, and maybe they could come to my house and put me back in shape.
