Hi Everyone

Can you put ribbon on the tiers of a cake iced in buttercream?     I have been telling clients that you can't  because of the grease in buttercream would soak through but I would like to know for sure

If you can how do you do it?

Love some feedback

Thank you

AWell Im not 100% sure if you can or not do it and hopefully someone who knows will chime in...but ive read on here that there is such thing as grease proof ribbon or that you can just take the whole ribbon and run it through the grease to get it on there so itd over the entire ribbon and not just in spots, course that will change the color of the ribbon. ..seems like I read something on here where you can do something to the ribbon and wax paper but im not sure what you do to it...

Thank you for the feedback.    I thought is would stain through.  But as I was reading the replies I had a thought!

What if you attached the ribbon to a thin strip of fondant the same width as ribbon then attached that to the buttercream tier?

Do you think that would work?

AI have attached the ribbon to clear packing tape, then cut off any excess tape. Attach tape side to the buttercream and it prevents the grease bleed through you're afraid of. Good luck!

Love this idea! I've read about using wax paper, but this sounds like it would be much easier. Thanks for sharing!

How do you attach the ribbon to the tape?

AI did two buttercream wedding cakes recently with ribbon. One was charcoal ribbon and the other was royal blue. The grease did show through but dried up and i didn't notice a thing. I thought they looked great.

Rydilly, it is tape.  Just put tape on the ribbon and that becomes the back (cake side) of the ribbon.

In this thread it says you can iron freezer paper shiny side to the ribbon and it adheres to it...

AThank you so much for all the info. I am going to play around with trying out the tape and the freezer paper. There is always such great information on CC
