Hi guys, I tend to use things around the kitchen for decorating. Recently, I had to make a replica of a pistol and I needed the "stipple effect" on the handle. I looked and looked and finally I found this little nutmeg grater. (Just like the large ones but really tiny). I took the top off it and used one of the sides. It worked GREAT. (no pun intended!)

I do the same thing. I'm sure if anybody saw a cake decorator in search of just the right thing to get just the right effect, they would think we were slightly demented!  I love when you have the "Ah Haa - got it!" moment, I will go and check out my nutmeg grater to see what you mean.

Haha - I am the same, as a home baker I think I have a little more free reign lol, My husband make me an absoloutly stunning set of redgum wooden rolling pins but in the mean time he wouldn't let me buy a rolling pin..... I have only recently started baking so didn't have one, so I ended up using my spray oil tin as a rolling pin until he finished the wooden ones.

lol, trust me he does pretty well from the kitchen :-) I just need to convince him to make me a really long one now. This is a photo of them in the frame he made for them, he has since painted the screws black.
