Hi everyone,

If someone could please help me with the pricing of a cake as the customer feels it is too high.....

It is for a 50th birthday party of 75 ppl.

2 tiered 8"12" two layers each tier. Lemon with lemon filling.  Fondant covered with 20 strings of fondant pearls, a fondant 50 (as it is for a 50th birthday), a 5" red rose and a 2" red rose.

I gave her a quote of $340.00 ----- do you think this is too much?

Everything is hand made and the time it takes to make these kinds of cakes is a lot.

Thank you!!!!!! :)

That quote is just fine.  Do not back down and give them a lower price.  Many on this website would charge even more than that.   Actually, you are charging too little, fondant work takes forever!  It's not always the number of servings, it's how much work it takes…I charge $85 for some of my 6" cakes.

Ok good, I agree.  I thought I was charging pretty low in comparison....  Thanks so much Norasmom! :)  @Norasmom

I wanted to pipe in and say many of the people who will tell you what to charge do not have a business, even though you posted in the business forum. Just fyi, I made the mistake of taking bad advice thinking this forum was only for business owners.

Definitely not too much if it is based on your costs and the market research for your area.  I would be slightly higher, but that is based on my costs and the market in my area.  As businesses, we have to remember, not everyone is our customer.

I just did a few quick calculations and based on the Wilton serving chart you are charging something like $2.50 a portion..that's VERY reasonable, in fact probably too little (just saying).

There are some customers who will always say your quote is too high "its just cake after all" right? Send her packing to the cheap cake ladies.
