you have to buy a bigger cake!!!!!

It's pretty simple, isn't it??

I had a customer calling today, looking for a fondant 3d truck cake for 20 people. I thought I can use 1/4 sheet cakes one on top of another and carve it when I need to. It's going to serve more than 20, I told her, between 25 and 30.

Priced it $160 (oh and it's for SUNDAY!!!!)

She thinks it's too small.. Servings are standard, I can't give you a bigger serving because you like cakes A LOT (and let you pay as the small one)!

the bigger one is going to cost more of course, but NOPE! she is asking the same price of the small one! and then, she asked me to make a 3d truck cake out of a tiramisù. Not a tiramisù filling, a real tiramisù, with lady fingers and coffee and everything.

And I just want to cry!

Please, can anyone tell me if my math is right? using 1/4 sheet cake (2 layers) for the bottom, and for the red part more layers one on top of another, it's more than 20ppl. RIGHT?

AShe should just be happy she's getting a carved cake for Sunday at all. Especially at 160. Around here they start like 200. If those are the servings you counted then that's what it is. You're the professional. Hold your ground with this one!

Yes, that's going to serve more than 20. If you do it to look like this one, it's going to serve more than 25-30 too, most likely.

She can cry all she wants about wanting free cake, doesn't mean you have to give it to her. Stick to your guns. That cake at $160 is a steal anyway (We'd be around AT LEAST $400 for that). And she's lucky your shop is willing to do it with such short notice.

What does your boss say about this?

Oh, and a truck out of tiramisu?? HAHAHAHAHA!

I don't understand.  Does your employer wish to LOSE money?  Does your employer make larger cakes at last minute notice and charge LESS per serving?  It seems obvious (from here) that the next step is to contact your employer, not strangers on a web site.

this customer is hurting my brain.

i don't understand, what she doesn't understand, and i've had my two cups of coffee...

perhaps she's feeling the loaves and fishes parable, since it's lent?

cut a quarter sheet lengthwise so you have a 4.5 x 26 then cut some off so it will fit in a half sheet box--place the cutouts on top to fashion it into a rolling chocolate highway bordered w/ some green grass, etc. slap a plastic truck on it and call it a day--who's gonna do a sculpture with one day notice (are you closed on sunday?) charge her for a half sheet -- done

How I'm interpreting it:

Customer wants the 3D truck cake for 20 servings.  OP tells her 3D truck will serve 25-30.  Customer then thinks that won't be enough cake, so she wants OP to make a bigger cake (with the truck made entirely of tiramisu) and charge her the same price as the standard cake.

In other words, customer wants more cake but doesn't want to pay more for it.

How one sculpts a truck from entirely tiramisu...I'm baffled.  The cake part isn't dense enough to hold it, never mind the filling.

OP, hold your ground, I beg of you.  This cake isn't worth your nor your employer's time, especially on such short notice.

I told her the price and the size, that's it! She didn't call back so guess she found somebody else ready to make a bigger cake for less!
