ABubble tea straws or sps. I get my sps plates and pillars on amazon. I use them for 3+ tiers. For 2 tiers, I use bubble tea straws.
AI don't think CWR41's response was meant to be mean or hurtful. I interpreted it as a light hearted joke in reference to a nursery rhyme. It can be hard to get the nature of someone's comment when you are reading it rather than listening to them.
You can use wooden dowels, thick drinking straws (bubble tea straws) or the thicker plastic columns that CWR41 suggested. SPS is also very popular, if you can get it where you are (I'm in Australia, so I can't). From what I've read on these forums it's just personal preference. What do you feel most comfortable using? What can you cut easily? I normally use wooden dowels.
AI use wooden dowels, but as long as you cut whatever you use level and even and place them correctly it doesn't matter.
And I thought CWR's answer was funny. How anyone could interpret that as hurtful is beyond me.
We are all different human beings with different ways of relating to others. I smiled when I read the response by CWR41. It was an unusual way to express her opinion about using a strong versus weak support. If, though, you did not appreciate her style, then you can ignore it or respond back that you did not appreciate the way in which she replied. There's no need to attack everyone on the CakeCentral forums.
CWR41, when I read the OP's post and the portion of Wood or Straw, the Three Little Piggies came to mind immediately! Then I read your post and actually laughed out loud, very clever!
I don't think that was hurtful at all or sarcastic. AND OP got an answer.
OP's response was however, rude to all members. I think sometimes we forget there are real life humans on the other side of the screen.
CWR41 I thought your answer was both witty and clever and conveyed the requested info perfectly. It's obvious that you can't please everyone but most of us, I think, enjoyed your reply.
I am new at this , this is not 1st time I asked for advice and help, I have see some comennts about other people: cake and yes I take cake decoration serosly,i don't care if you ever help me,last time I come here

Sugarflorist and elliemaeee I think you are seeing something in this thread that no one else is seeing or intending. Please note this is not an attack just an observation.
i see the cute joke but most of us missed the fact that all cwr had to do was either own the potential in the first place for someone to feel pricked by the reply or when evidence of it definitely caused bad feelings then all that needed to happen was say,'oh sorry i was just being silly--no harm intended'--many of us just decided that op is wrong to have feelings about being referenced as a piggie--feelings aren't right or wrong--
and as far as her saying 'everyone' is sarcastic and hurtful here--sure that's a broad brush but fairly deserved all things considered--we do have quite a cutting history--most of it has been deleted but there's enough left to show us in a less than favorable light--
again, i see the nursery rhyme in there and it's funny but since it hurt it could use the apology to clear it out of the queue--
if someone tells a joke that bombs it's not funny if you're the recipient--someone was hurt send out the bandaid instead of trying to convince them they weren't hurt--it's easier and right

810whitechoc you may well be right ;) but With all the nationalities on here humour is bound to be different. The thing I do not understand is the defensive reaction by an original poster when upset is caused. A simple apology would stop the misunderstanding and allow the thread to continue. The original poster could also delete the post and pm an apology. That way it would not grow out of proportion and and become a free for all pushing people away from the forum. As a child I was taught that it is only funny if EVERYONE laughs. If the person the humour is the butt of is offended then it is not funny. If everyone then piles in, it is bullying. Now I know we are all adults here but there should still be accepted ways of reacting to people, in the normal world if we accidentally cause offence then you give an apology. In my opinion it should be no different here.

dose anyone know what is best to use to support a tier cake, wood or straw?
AI used reinforced cake straws on my last cake between the tiers with a wooden dowel for the centre support. It worked really well and the straws were so much easier to cut
AI do use bubble tea straws and they work great, are easy to cut and are very affordable. You can find them at Asian markets or order them online. I run a wooden dowel down the middle of the all the tiers but use the bubble tea or "booba" tea straws in between each tier.
A light hearted joke does not merit an apology, how silly. If anyone here deserves an apology it's CW for being called mean, and getting lectured by a bunch of drama mongers.
I use wooden dowels for the most part, sometimes columns. As long as you are making sure they are level, spaced properly and cut straight, any of the options will work.
SPS is always a good bet, especially if you are feeling nervous.
