I am trying to come up with my Christmas flavors for this year. I thought about little chunks of fudge baked into a chocolate cake. Has anyone ever tried it? I'm thinking it would possibly just melt into the cake when baking, but could be wrong.

I may just try a test batch and see what happens.

Aoh it is. Just watch the sweetness. it can get too sweet if your recepie is sweet and icing is sweet. Maybe try semi sweet choc instead of milk choc or vise versa.

Excellent! Thank you for the suggestions! I usually make my fudge with semisweet chocolate. I'm not a milk chocolate fan! :)

The only thing that I have ever done was to make my cake and then I would poke  holes in cake with a fork and pour Hershey's chocolate ice cream topping. I would do it in between both layers, top and bottom.  Most here love fondant but I do not use it so I would just cover cake with buttercream icing once the ice cream topping was poured on.  It really tastes great done that way.

Sound like the fudge or chocolate chips cooked in would be good also!!! Yummy this is making me want some cake!!!!

Excuse me for butting in, but how do you use chocolate to make fudge?  I've never heard of that.  Is it an American thing?  Here we make fudge with sugar and condensed milk etc.

It's pretty clear not everyone in this thread is talking about the same thing. Fudge in the US is usually chocolate fudge which is a mixture of sugar, milk, semisweet chocolate, cooked on the stove to a certain temp, removed from heat, whipped and poured onto a buttered plate. There are also no cook recipes.

Looks like this:

mfeagan:  I've not tried it as I often use a fudge icing made from melted real chocolate  or  Hershey's cocoa fudge icing, so no need to add to the cake.

ps: also I make a Maple White Chocolate Fudge, Cookies and Cream fudge, and Butterscotch fudge,  as well as Chocolate fudge.  but I wouldn't put them in cake batter.

The post above from howsweet is how we make fudge in America. That is the type I want to try to bake into a cake. Just small pieces.

We also have a pouring fudge - hot fudge - for ice cream topping. YUM!

I make fudge icing with melted chocolate, but I like to get creative with different types of cupcakes. I have to supply them to a bridal shop weekly and they always like creative flavors. You name it, I have done it! :)

I'll give it a try and see what happens. I'll report back with pictures when I do end up making them. Probably this weekend!

Thanks for everyone's feedback!
