Ok, I have a cookie bouquet order for next week .. My only day to bake is on Friday (1st), and she wants to pick up the order on Tuesday (5th) for her anniversary on Thursday (7th) Will the cookies remain fresh un-iced until Sunday or Monday, and if so, will they still be fresh to eat on Thursday almost a week later?
Also, she asked for hearts and lips .. my only thought on this is .. valentiney look .. is there any way to do these shapes without it looking so valentineish?
Thanks for help on either question!
I find that my sugar cookies stay very fresh for quite some time due to the butter in them. keep them wrapped and I think that they will be fine. Not sure how to make hearts and lips not look valentine like unless the hearts are a different color than red and pink...
AHere are some ideas from the web.
Put a modern pattern or colors on the hearts. http://cookiedecorating.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/wild-valentine-cookies/
Here is a pinterest page with lots of ideas. The tiny hearts with the mustaches & lips are cute. (I'm not a fan of mustaches, but they sure are popular lately. You could just do the lips on the hearts.) The one with the birds is also cute. https://www.pinterest.com/gottabesmee/cookies-hearts/
Thanks so much for the replies! Glad to hear the cookies should be ok that long .. I can't do the "wild" hearts, as she said no black icing due to her daughter eating them too .. But I do like the second link, lots of cute ideas there! Thanks everyone!
If I have a lot of cookies to do I do different things on different days - mix dough, roll between wax paper and into the freezer on first day; bake, cool, put into ziplocks and back into the freezer the next day until ready to decorate.

Pastrybaglady: agreed.
Freezing decorated/iced cookies has resulted in disaster for me. Royal Icing & glaze have always gone ugly when I froze them. Freeze dough, or baked cookies AOK, but not iced cookies.
So you freeze your cookies twice, once before baking and then again after baking? I've frozen iced cookies before, but they were all white .. with no other colors on them .. so I had good luck with that, but never tried it with intricate designs or colors.

TheCakerator: this wonderful decorator on this website explains it better than I can. It's what happened to mine.
