How To Decorate Chocolate Cupcakes For A Theme?

AChocolate cupcakes are obviously very dark and nearly impossible to color. I wanted to make them blue and purple, with blue and purple frosting to look like silly from monsters inc, but I don't want to use vanilla frosting. Not a fan of chocolate cake with vanilla frosting... Any ideas? Or input on the chocolate cake / vanilla frosting combo, am I alone on this opinion? Thanks!
AYou could always make a white colored frosting (then dye it to your colors) but use an orange flavoring. Orange and chocolate work great together!
APersonally I love vanilla frosting on a chocolate cupcake but that's me :)
How about mint flavoured frosting? Or white chocolate? Cheesecake? Strawberry or raspberry (since you'll be adding purple colour, this should still work)
AI love chocolate with vanilla, I hate the other way around :) and are you asking if you can dye chocolate cake colors? If so, you can try making white cake, add enough cocoa powder to taste, and then a whole bunch of food coloring (sometimes make red velvet this way in a pinch)
You could try doing a caramel frosting (that's one of my favorites). Plus, it's very light in color so you can still dye it. You could also use vanilla frosting for the color, but then add other flavorings to it like butterscotch, butter rum, or banana.
You can use white color on the top of the cupcake and making some your special theme specific.
