AHow much do you pay for powdered sugar? I was just at Safeway and they had domino sugar at a "new everyday low price" of $1.99 for a 2lb bag. The Safeway brand was $2.39!!
Recently someone gave me a case of p.s. in 1lb boxes. Not sure where it was from. Maybe SAMs club? It was really convenient to have them in 1lb portions but I'm not crazy about the packaging. It seems so wasteful. I didn't buy it, so I don't know how much it cost. .
Anyway...just curious about how others buy it and what you pay.
I recently broke down and started buying the 4lb bag of domino confectioners sugar at BJ's for 2.99. It has a ziploc type top and since I sift and weigh out my sugar anyway, it's pretty convenient. Plus, one batch of icing is 3lb of sugar for me, so it's nice to not need multiple bags for one batch. The only downside is if you get a grainy bag, it's a lot of sugar to not be able to use.

Yeah, why is it so inconsistent too? Once it's fine, next time it sucks! Even domino.
AI can get 7lbs for $4.49 at costco but it has a funny smell, not sure if all PS smells that way in such a large quantity as I've never bought so much anywhere else!
AI buy 50 pound bags from Costco for about $23. The price fluctuates. It used to be around $25 or so. I bought powdered sugar from Target once. I hadn't started buying the big bags yet, and Target's price was cheaper than any around at that time. I used a couple bags of it, and ended up with the grainiest buttercream. I was pretty irritated at the wasted ingredients. To finish it up, I used small amounts of the sugar in other batches of stuff so it wasn't a complete waste. Get what you pay for, right?
AI've seen the 50lb bags at Restaurant Depot, but I was afraid of a bad batch. I've run in to issues with sugar from Target too!
AAt my target its usually at least 2.39+, Safeway and Von's it goes on sale all the time for 1.99 for 2lb bags. I wanted to get it at Costco, but here they only have the 50lb bag. I don't have that kind of space, or need for it yet. Glad to know I'm not grossly overpaying.
I normally buy C&H in the 50lb bags at Costco for around $23 +/-, but recently I purchased a different brand at Restaurant Depot at it is terrible!!! It makes the grainiest butter cream. It's okay for cooking, but I think I'll just stick with C&H.
Of all the powder sugars I've tried, believe it or not, the Walmart Great Value brand works the best for my recipes. And it's only $1.65 for 2lbs :)
AI get the 7 pound bags at Sams. Works well for me, because I use 5 pounds per batch of buttercreme, and 4 pounds per batch of fondant. So when I get home with them I bag up 2 pounds per Sams bag into my own bags, and I use two of those to make my fondant and I close up the original bags for my buttercreme, 5 pounds ready to go no more guesswork or measuring. :)
our warehouse stores just have 50# bags at costco and 4lb bags of C&H at Sams. I tried the paper wrap 50# and it was HORRIBLE. I now buy cases of the 4# bags and am happy with it. The size works well for my recipes.

Wow!, that's like .46 cents a pound. I think I may have to go and check out Costco for the C&H. I have tried off brands and I don't like the way they taste. C&H is the only brand so far that I will use. I pay $2.00 at Wal-Mart for 2#'s.
