I can't believe that is the title of that cupcake cake. haha. I have been looking for a cake to do for the 4th that isn't a flag, it seems almost pointless. All of them are red white and blue. I want something non-standard.

AThe most common non-flag designs I've seen for July 4th are the bald eagle and Uncle Sam's hat. You can't really get away from the red white and blue colors since that's part of the theme.

ABy the way, the US Flag design with 50 stars is copyrighted, so you would need written permission from the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing to avoid infringing on the government's copyright and incurring the wrath of the Justice Dept.

Just kidding, it's in the public domain.

I am so excited to be doing the red white and blue colors for a gender reveal on Independence Day! I get to make the little baby outfits hanging on a clothes line.

BTW, I LOVE the American flag, and just bought a red and white striped bikini top with white stars on a blue background, as well. I LOVE it! But then, I am a very patriotic individual, and I cry during the Pledge of Allegiance, and during the singing of The Star Spangled Banner. Can't help it, even though I feel like a weenie.

But yes, I get the point of the first post, lol. It IS A FLAG CAKE!! In cupcake form... Still a flag, and still cake, hence, flag cake. DUH!

I think you can. Maybe a declaration of independence cake. I just think it is overdone. There is more to it than the color combo. :)

I have a cake in my pictures that isn't a straight flag cake.

http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3017439/a/3355297/made-this-cake-for-forth-of-july-fundraising-event-for-a-charity/sort/display_order/

I wanted something different too. So I copied some of the Declaration of Independence on the bottom tier.
Made the flag torn draped on the stars.

Ya that is a cool idea Shanter then you could make the cake anyway you like on the outside. Just a plain cake even.

I'd go with these mini cakelettes and do something everyone will remember!

In fact I wasn't even planning on doing anything but now that I saw this I think I will.

That is cute! I am offended by how much cake they had left over, though! Did you see it? I could've gotten another 12 firecrackers out of those cakes ;-)

Shanter-What's funny is I didn't even notice her countertop! lol

Anna I know you could use it for cake balls though. I saw some red white and blue ones.

theresaf- I said it was a good idea and just do something different on top. OP should do Santa a patriotic one on top.

Or she could even do an astronaut on the white cake with the inside as the flag. That's patriotic right?

I do love that firecracker idea - I might do that too.

I like the idea of the unexpected - which is why I did the flag inside!  So the Santa idea is truly unexpected! He could hold a tiny flag-- that would be funny to me!

I'm actually going to make the cupcakes that look like Italian Ices (sorry - red white blue) that I made last year (Bakerella-like) but I am also wanting to try a non-cake idea I got from Pinterest.  It's a watermelon carved to look like an open mouthed shark with all the mixed fruit inside the shark!  That says "summer fun" doesn't it?

Not at all! I just want something different on the outside than red white and blue. I have been wanting to try the flag inside the cake. :)
