I have the electric Kopykake Karosel (they also have a battery operated one).  It is white plastic with reverse and various speeds.  I have mixed feelings about it.  It is good for airbrush painting but it stops if you put any pressure on it while icing......  Wasn't cheap though as I bought it here in Oz.  Might be cheaper being posted directly from the UK.

I saw a few on EBay from Asia that looked good for display purposes, they have mirrors on them and they look to be a good price.

I am South African originally but living in Sydney! I am a hobby baker as well. There is a great website I go to to order my supplies, it is a Brisbane store but the delivery is quick and not too expensive. They have so much great stuff! Check it out, www.bakingpleasures.com.au

Yes they are a good supplier, and often are up to date with what is coming out of the States.

ADoes anyone know where I can get a life size or near enough silicon mold for a lipstick or does anyone have one (Australia) that I can borrow (Perth)? I will pay for the loan/postage, I need it for end of November, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you thought about getting some silicone and making your own mould?

AYes, I remembered last night that I bought casting gel ages ago, so out it came, found an old lipstick, pushed it halfway into some putty and went to work. So far so good, although I did find the casting silicon gel is very flexible but did two of each part of the lipstick so now just wait for the gumpaste to dry then I can join them together and paint, I think that's how it's done, any thoughts? Thank you for replying x

Hi Guys. Another Aussie checking in. I'm in Sydney. I'm slowly flicking through the responses - a way to go yet. I'm another hobby cake decorator.

Yep. I send mine to "Pure Gelato" at Croydon Park in Sydney:  www.puregelato.com.au   (click on online orders and edible cake scans).

You talking about edible icing or an edible image/writing printed on edible "paper"?   I don't know who would make the first one but many bakeries will print off and edible image for you quick smart.

If you think that you might want to create your own images- you might consider buying a new unused printer and edible inks (you can't use a machine that has previously used normal ink as it is still toxic).  I bought a cheap edible ink compatible printer here in Oz at a normal retail store, I ordered the edible ink and edible sheets from USA as even with the postage they were cheaper than buying here.  The supplies have a fairly long shelf life.  For a different (though not as good look on cake tops but good on some things) you can also print on the rice paper that you get from Asian shops.

Pretty much you link your edible ink printer to your PC as usual and print out whatever you like.  It is functionally no different from a normal printer except that the ink and the sheet s that you print on are edible.

If you type edible ink or edible printer into your browser you will find a list of suppliers and a list of compatible printers.  Type a similar search in the general cake central site and you will find loads and loads of great hints.

MELBOURNE CUPCAKE DAY

Yesterday glowed with that happy type of frenzy, playing with every colour of Satin Ice, each stacked in its own white bucket on the topmost shelf of the Harry Potter Room. Finally the kitchen overflowed and radiated with my representation of the silk colours and patterns that will illuminate today’s Melbourne Cup.

Melbourne Cupcakes finally finished, kitchen stickily awash with remnants of white chocolate ganache, multicoloured bits of Satin Ice, unwashed cutters and a myriad of miscellaneous, yet-to-be sorted bits and pieces that invade my kitchen at cake decorating time.

Time? No time!!! Gotta get ready! Jeff has thoughtfully dry-fried the chops and steamed the vegies; I gulp some down and have a quick tidy up – myself, not the drowning kitchen, and race out the door. Two-and-a-half hours of “Di dova sei in Australia?”, “Prendi qualcosa da bere?” and “Come si chiama la madre di Isaac?”

Over and over and over again. I’ve got it! Yes, I’ve finally got it!!! Then we change topics and it’s all gone again.

Home to that kitchen that hasn’t cleaned itself. A quick tidy and stickiness eradication; the rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

At 11pm I fall into bed, my head swirling with brightly coloured jockey silks and Italian phrases. Tossing and turning and tossing and turning… I must have dozed off briefly since I woke, falling from a podium in my blue, white and red silk shirt with the yellow stars down my sleeves. So I won’t bet on Super Cool … or maybe I should. Can’t sleep – too many colours jumping around my head, inter-mingled with Italian phrases, sticky ganache and a kitchen that still needs to be tidied. Up! On the Internet – catching up with the rest of this nice and chatty Aussie forum that I discovered on CakeCentral in a momentary cake-break earlier today. Anything to take my mind off that kitchen calling me. Eyes heavy, dozing … dozing … Time to say buonasera to the Aussie ladies and guy. It’s almost 3 a.m.

Ahhh… sleep at last. Beautiful, cosy, deeeeep sleep. The phone jerks me cruelly into reality and Jeff tells me he forgot to take the Melbourne Cupcakes to the office. Out of bed! Gotta get ready for another day, drop the cupcakes to the office, tidy the kitchen and then onto Brigitte and Charlie’s with the rest of the Melbourne Cupcakes, me resplendent in my new silk suit and my first-ever fascinator. First to check Facebook, emails, news, that new Aussie CC forum… A story begins shaping in my mind and I must jot it down or it will be gone…

Aaaahhhh…. It’s 11a.m! Must have shower, wash hair, get to office, on to Charlie and Brigitte’s for a lovely afternoon.

Kitchen can wait...

Hi, to the Aussies that bake cupcakes where do you get your cupcake liners from? I bought a new cupcake/muffin pan from William Sinoma (the goldtouch one) but I'm looking to buy some cupcake liners. I'm thinking 1/14 by 2 inch (muffin size) ones would be best. I don't want to buy them off e'bay to find out they're too thin and cheap. The good ones are charging $18 in freight. Which is ridiculous!! I tried Cakes around Town but they're pricey as well.

Hi cbeg.

I can't really assist with your query re the icing because I'm just a cake decorating hobbyist. Sorry but I didn't like seeing you ignored.

I wish you well with your new venture,

Cheryl

Hi Danilou.

I'm new to this forum and was waiting for someone more "senior" and more experienced to answer your question..

I don't know where you are in Australia. I'm in Sydney and buy my cupcake liners from Iced Affair in Camperdown. They also have an online store and are on Facebook. They may not be cheap because they stock quality items but they're worth checking out. They are also happy to give advice on cake decorating.

Good luck.

Danilou my local 'House' shop sells good cupcake liners.  I think it does vary from store to store but if you have one nearby it would be worth checking out.
