ok, i have read so many things about what to charge. The latest thing Ive read was that most undercharge for their cakes.  I have a breakaway cake to do Friday. She needs 25 cupcakes with the cake being a school soccer theme.  I told her $50. do you think its too much?

It definitely sounds like you are undercharging.  What is a breakaway cake?

What is the cost of your ingredients and how long will it take to make the breakaway cake?  $2.00/cupcake is not unreasonable, depending on your demographic and how detailed the cupcakes are.  If you use fondant accents, I would charge $2.75.

Sounds like a cupcake cake.

OP, add up your costs, including ingredients, labor, and per-order overhead (license fees, insurance, etc.), then add markup for your profit based on local market values. $2 for custom cupcakes is probably too low but since you are the only one who knows your cost structure no one else can answer this question definitively.

Also assume its a cupcake cake.  I charge $3 per cupcake.
