I STARTED MAKING A STANDING BOTTLE CAKE USING 6 INCH CIRCLES. I USED A DOWEL TO KEEP THEM ALIGNED. AFTER STACKING THE EIGHT CIRCLE, THE SECOND ONE STARTED TO BULGE.LETTING ME NO THAT IT WAS TO MUCH WEIGHT AND NOT PROPERLY SUPPORTED. SO IS THERE SOMETHING I NEED TO BE PLACING IN BETWEEN THE LAYERS BESIDES DOLLLIES FOR SUPPORT.  I ENDED UP CUTTING THEM IN HALF AND MAKING IT 2D. IM STILL A BEGINNER AND WOULD REALLY LIKE TO PERFECT THIS DESIGN. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Did you use a cake cardboard every 4 or so inches?  With dowels below the cardboard supporting the cardboard?

ADenetteb>, I need to put more dowels under the cake board, this was definitely an off day. To many all nighters. Thanks a lot

Problem identified then.  Cardboards between the tiers only work in conjunction with dowels.  Think of the dowels as table legs and the cardboard as a table top.  The cake tier sits on the table top so it isn't pushing down on the cake, the weight is carried by the legs.  The center dowel does not support, only helps keep the tiers from sliding around during transport.

More dowels doesn't equal more support... use the minimum necessary or else it will weaken the cake and cause it to fall apart in line where it's been perforated.
