Hi

My OH bought me this pan yesterday for my Birthday from a reputable company. I have wanted one of these for ages. I was disappointed when I opened the box as it doesn't look like the pictures on the wilton website or the website of the retailer wher he bought it.

The bears feet are pointing forward  not out to the side and there is hardly any definition on the arms, it also has a weird ridge around the edge  and the bear seems small in comparison to the size of the tin( lots of wasted space surrounding the actual bear. there is also a weird opening to fill it, which once baked and full of cake will need to be carved off. one of the reasons i asked for this was not to have to carve a bear LOL.

I have attached some pictures, what do you all think?

Wilton Website picture

Pictures of the front and back of the box and the pan itself. ( sorry about the quality taken with my ipad!)

AI have this pan, the one you received is either an updated version, or its a counterfeit product. I'd recommend calling or emailing Wilton in the USA to ask directly, because your pan does not even match the image on the box it come in.

I just checked the Wilton website and the pan looks exactly the same as the one my mother bought in 1974 (and she still has it).

http://www.wilton.com/shapedpan/Stand-Up-Cuddly-Bear-Pan

I would like to know what happened because your pan is obviously a fake. The place you purchased it from has got a big problem with their supplier. The box doesn't look right either - in the pic you posted the bear's left hand is in its mouth whereas in both pans the right hand is in its mouth.

I agree the bear is left handed on one and right handed on the other LOL. The box is also flimsy compared to the ones my other wilton pans came in and the pan seems much lighter too  than the other pan  I have (the tasty fill heart pan which is stamped Wilton on both parts)

Can I just ask Mariel9898 is the pan your mother bought stamped at all with anything like the model number or with the Wilton name?

The shop said they were also going to contact Wilton.

I sent off my pictures to Wilton yesterday. Just waiting for a reply- The problem is the time difference I am in the UK so Wilton seem to be 6 hrs behind, so i guess i'll get a reply around 9.00pm GMT like i did last night.

I just went out to the bakery and checked mine. On the top, on the little support doo-hickey that rests on the cookie sheet while it bakes, it says WILTON CHINA 502-518. Mine looks just about nothing like the one you have. There is nothing to that right arm, on yours! And the legs are stubs! I think the picture on the box, that shows it using the opposite arm, is just the picture flipped, for artistic value, and balance, as mine is using the opposite arm as well.

And as far as counterfeiting goes, what do companies expect? If they want their stuff to NOT be copied, they need to have it made in the country they live in, and support jobs. The Chinese counterfeiters are using the same equipment and materials that they're being paid to use to produce the originals, just with a bit less quality, and slightly different manner.  It is no different that if I worked for Burger King, and didn't ring up the orders and pocketed the money myself, then made my Whopper with a smaller burger and different dressing, with no pickle, lol! It is basically the same, but the inventor makes no money and it is somewhat "lacking" in quality, but generally still works, even if it slowly poisons you...

Thanks for checking for me.

mine actually has stamped on the support  c Wilton visit www.Wilton.com for replacement label (which makes no sense)

Just noticed the copyright Wilton bit its soooooo feint.

I agree re the picture flipping and you are right it has stuby legs and poorly defined arms. It also has a cylinder like it between the bears legs, level with the bottom of his legs below his tummy  which means to fill his legs this bit will fill with cake. To carve this away would lose support from the bottom of the cake. If left in place what would it look like?!

Re counterfeiting I agree what do these companies expect if they move their manufacturing overseas-they should be supporting the local economy and jobs. I have another Wilton pan ( how sad is it that i only have one LOL, but i am a hobby baker) which is made in China( tasty fill heart pan) but its better quality so i assume its one of the real ones made under licence rather than a counterfeit one.

I also have some  invicta pans made here in the UK 30 miles from where i live and they are fab and will last 4 ever.

I dont have many tins, but i do try to buy the best quality i can afford. I thought by buying wilton I was doing this obviously not

oooh parcel just delivered with a picture of an airbrush on the side OH must have bought it for my birthday as well as a surprise. Seems to be industrial strength it weighs a ton LOL

I don't know as I don't live with my mom so I can't check. That's one of the first pans she bought to make a birthday cake for my sister's third birthday. Still remember it, the bear in a large rectangular cake carved to look like a wagon full of candy. I think that's the pan she's used most often throughout the years, from teddy bears to babies to dragons to graduation bears.

Thats exactly why i wanted it as i thought it would be well used and could be used for other animals as well as bears. I am still waiting for wilton to get back to me.

Annabakescakes has the pan your mom has and she's posted what it printed on it. I'm convinced mine is a counterfeit

AI bought the large and mini Wilton bear pans 2years ago and they look like the bear on the box with the feet that curve outward. I would be upset as well! I have used those pans for a lot of different animals- I used the big bear to make a dragon last year. If Wilton responds back and says this is the new mold design, you can find the original one on eBay. That's where I have purchased most of my vintage character pans in my collection. So sorry this was so disappointing for you!

Good Afternoon Lynn,

Thank you for sending in the photos of your pan. The pant that you received is the cuddly bear pan. The feet look different in the pan than they will when the item is baked. The pan is a bit larger than the cake itself once it bakes. After baking the cake, the bear will look like it does in the photos online and on the box. You have received the correct pan. If you have any further questions, please let us know!

Have a great day!

I sent them the pictures I had taken which I posted at the start of this thread. I didn't send them the one from their own website LOL.

However I am currenty composing a carefully worded reply and i am going to send them their own picture, as they obviously don't know what their own tin, needed to bake the finished cake, in the picture, on their own website and packaging  looks like.

I'm sure there are US laws about false advertising and misleading illustration.

I will post a copy of the email here after i've sent it.

Still speechless or as we say in the UK Gobsmacked!

I have been following this thread without commenting - until you posted this - LOL!!!!!!!!  Magic Pan indeed.

I had an issue with Wilton a while ago (bad color) ruined a bucket of Satin Ice.  I sent them a pic of what the color did.  They sent me a new color and 5lbs of Wilton fondant (I don't use).   I called and they said they wouldn't reimburse me for my Satin Ice.

I agree with Anna.  If possible, Bake the cake and put the cake and the box pic next to each other and contact someone else.

I'm reluctant to bake a cake in it, as the shop have offered me a full refund. ( which i'm sure i won't get if i used it) The girl in the shop agrees with me as i phoned her and she checked the rest of her stock, which are all the same as mine.

I don't know if its the shop who are buying counterfeits either knowingly or unknowingly or Wilton who have their stuff made in China under licence and are turning a blind eye to fakes being made and passed off as genuine.

If Wilton acknowledged it was a fake and the shop was at fault not them, i would then be happer and more confident to try and buy one from somewhere else.

I am reluctant to buy a new one online( following their reply) as most suppliers are just using the wilton website pictures. I'm trying to buy a used one off ebay,( where i can see the picture of the pan!)  but there are not many for sale on ebayin the UK, and the shipping cost from the US are more than the cost of the pan

Here is my reply to Wilton lets see what response I get this time

Quote:
Hi xxxxxxxx

I'm sorry but I totally disagree for the following reasons
  1. The soles of the bears feet are pointing forwards in the pan I have purchased and to the side on the picture on the box and your website.
  2. The bears legs are stubs on my pan and the arms lack definition.
  3. The bottom of the bears tummy is not level with his heels which will result in the bear sitting on cylindrical lump of cake.
There is no way this will look the same as the image on the website once baked.

This is supposed to be the Stand Up 3d cuddly bear.

Attached is the picture from your website, 2105-603-main.jpeg

Also attached is the picture of the pan and the box it came in, image(3).jpeg in and it is clearly different.

I agree that the picture of the finished bear both on your website and the box my pan came in are the same. However, the actual pan I recieved is different from the picture of the pan on the website and box.

If the pan I received is different to the pan on the website and the packaging, I don't see how the finished cake could be the same.

Please could you have a closer look at the images.

If you are saying I have recieved the correct pan, and this is the pan Wilton are now supplying, then there should be an accurate representation on the website, the packaging and instructions.

I bought this pan based on the images on the website and packaging. What I got was something completely different and didn't match either image.
Please could you have another look at the images and perhaps look at your current stock of this item for comparison.

I am concerned i have been sold a counterfeit item.

Kind Regards

It took me ages to word it tactfully, my first reaction was exactly as yours and did toy with the idea of asking her what mind altering substance she was taking I also thought about using "you cannot be serious!"   a la John McEnroe  But took my time and went for diplomacy not usually my forte
